  2. I'm in Stockbridge, about 3.5 hours from ya.
  3. Ok so i purchased a new head but i have ran into a problem. The is no hole for the Temp sending unit. :fs1: :fs1: (Yes, I will be calling the company I purchased the head from and letting them hear about this and give them a chance to make it right or its :rotfl2: ) But my question is can drill and tap the screw thats in the theromstat housing. This screw has nothing connected to it and I am not even sure of its purpose (other than maybe flushing purposes). Or is there somewhere else that i could mount it. Point is I don't want to remove the head again. :ack: I will try and post a picture of this scew later tonight.
  4. Yeah $30 to $40 to protect $200 is a no brainer i guess.

  7. Going to Isengard in style.
  8. Yeah the guys i got the new head from showed me two other heads with cracks in the same location. :???: Picked up the head today and now to put things back together. Can the head bolts be used again or do i need to just replace them? :help: BTW http://www.alliedmotorparts.com in only deal with heads and have some great prices and good people.
  9. Ordered the head today with tax and everything came to $217 and they guarantee the head. :D This is better then the $525 i was quoted from the local parts house.
  10. I was replacing the timing components and noticed that i had a bad lifter which i replace. Then i decided to go ahead have the head worked due to the mileage (2.5l/225,xxx miles). When i took it to the shop they found a crack in the head. Just wondering if anyone thinks this could be fixed. Couple of people said that it may be able to be used again or should i just shell out the money for a reman head. I found one for about $200 at a local shop here in ATL.
  11. Any other lights not working? Did you check the fuse?
  12. My book says Crankshaft pulley to vabration damper bolts- 20ftlbs but at the bottom it says Vibration damper bolt- 80ftlbs (lubricated) I just took of the pulley an if that was 20ftlbs then i need to hit the gym soon. :D
  13. Was $400 to have it bored 40 over or did you have this done later?
  14. The "new" motor is about $350 with 103,xxx miles on it. I was just afraid that i would be inheriting someone elses problem child. My current motor has 275,xxx on it and not sure if has been rebuilt at all. But i do know that the PO had replaced the timing chain with one from a 4.0 (mines a 2.5). I figured it coust around $400 to rebuild my motor. Thanks for comfriming this.
  15. Thanks for info. I'm still not sure which is better to rebuild or buy some one elses possible problem child. :dunno: .
  16. The 2.5l that i have now is starting to go south. :fs1: I pulled a lifter out and had a hole in the bottom of it where it met the lobe of the camshaft. I have found another 2.5 from a 86' manche for a pretty good price. Couple of questions 1. Is the 86' motor a carburated motor? 2. If so, will it still work with my 90 which is TBI? I would still like to use the TBI if at all possible.
  17. Thanks for the info. :D Back to junk yard i go.
  18. The Guages look good in the truck, much better than the Idiot lights. I had tought of doing this for a while. Would a 93 Cluster work in a 90?
  19. Thanks for the info everyone. I believe i have it back together correctly. We will see tomorrow.
  20. Cool, so does that mean that i rotate the camshaft sprocket around untill it lines up with the crank sprocket timing mark or do time it where it is. :dunno:
  21. Ok i have a few question now that i have everything apart. I set the timing to TDC by taking the number one spark plug out and bumping the starter until I felt the compession start to build. Then i rotated it to zero using the timing marks on the timing cover. Also the rotor button was pointing to number one post on the cap. So this have been set to TDC correct? But when i removed the timing chain cover the timing marks where incorrect. The piston spocket was correct but the cam spocket was 180 degrees off. Just wondering if i have done anything wrong. Thanks again for any info...
  22. Yeah the harmonic balancer bolt is the one. Thanks for the info. The write up you did was great on the timing chain replacement. :D But i read it just a little late to think about using the drive accessories to help hold tension for removal of the bolt. :fool: Also glad to know that i don't have to drop the oil pan to replace the tensioner. This is my first timing chain and i am learning as i go.
  23. I am replacing the timing chain on the 2.5, and i am down to removing the crankshaft bolt. I cannot seem to break it loose. Just wondering if its a left hand treaded bolt. Thanks for any help. :D
