camper shell topper PICS
jeepmj_tj replied to jeepmj_tj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
is that a comanche specific or made for another truck.. do you know the brand? -
post up all the camper shell/topper pics and if you know the brand that would be great, perf. fiberglass ones. I'm sorta looking for one in particular that i have seen, it was a smooth top that flowed with the trucks lines real well. It may have been one i saw on ebay like a year ago, but i just can't rember.. joe

how hard would it to be to have the little window pop up with the content of the first post in a thread, then you run the mouse over the link to a thread like on NAXJA. always thought that was cool.. just an idea

not to change the subject, but are really making that long of drive just to go to uwharrie.... I'd rather just shoot on over to Tellico. 10x's better. oh. and i have a stock tcase skid. its hangs a few inches below the tcase. its been say on and abuse pretty good.. still hanging in there...

What do you mean 'we'? I've never heard of anybody doing such a thing. The slightly offset diff has never been an issue from what I've seen. Clemson 4wheel Center. the diff is offcenter toward the pass. side. On jeep tj's with large lift kits the rear driveshaft is so short that with the slightly off set rear end, the driveshaft is running at multiple angles and can cause ujoints to wear out sooner. It was just a thought, but would not be a problem in your case since the comanche is a longer wheelbase vehicle.
-
if you want to match the width of your front end, you can run like 1 inch wheel spacers. It wounldnt be much of a problem on the longer wheelbase but on shorter jeeps like a wrangler we center up the diff and run a 2" spacer only on one side. (the 8.8 diff is slightly offcenter).

i have a long bed truck and am in the process of building a hitch that will be the basis for the bumper lateron. i cut up part of the stock bracket. I am also using a second hole on the bottom side that is closer to the shackle mount. So in total, I'm using two on the bottom side and 4 on the side. kinda sucks getting the nut started on that second bolt, but i figure once its on for good, i won't be taking it off. i should be done with it this week, ill take some pics lateron.

We had a comanche come into work today to fix an ignition swtich problem. So of course i wasted some time out in the shop giving her the look over. It was an 88 or 89 metric ton Pioneer 4.0L column shift auto, bench, 4x4, D44 in back, had an warn 8274 up front. everything else stock. It was some guys work truck. once our mechanic fixed the switch it ran like a top. Kinda neat to have a comanche come in and it be a Rare one with all the goodies.... just thought i was share.

they made just the clear bodies. the chassis and drivetrain of the one posted earlier is from a tamiya bruiser. they originally came with a toyota hilux body or chevy blazer. if you find a running chassis on ebay they go for around 1K bucks. here's mine
-
they don't make the bodies anymore. I have one i bought off ebay a couple years ago. the previous owner cut the bumpers and flares off. the only other rc body that i have seen was brand new and it went for over fifty dollars.

here is a link to another aftermarket tubular style rear bumper and hitch. not my particular style but looks better than most. http://www.rockratz.com/rb1m.html# I've already started making a custom hitch that will eventually be the base to a custom high clearance rear bumper. ill post some pics when i finish the hitch.

fsj axles on my 86 comanche?
jeepmj_tj replied to GirsMJ86's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
if you go with waggy axles, go ahead and plan on regearing. The stock 2.72 gears or whatever blow... i put a waggy d44 under the front of my truck about 6 months ago (with leaf springs). I am currently running an MJ amc 20 in the rear. still havent decided what I'm going to do about swaping the bolt pattern so that ill have a complete set of matching rims... -
So that particular hitch only uses the stock bumper bracket holes for mounting? does anyone have another brand hitch that mounts differently that could possibly take some pictures? thanks
-
I was wondering if anyone had any pictures or could take some pics of the frame mounts on there reciever hitch. (mounted on the truck) I aquired a hitch that is pretty close to the width of the rails and am going to modify it to fit and use it as the foundation for a custom rear bumper. just wondering if it bolts on to the side of the rail or just bolts underneith thanks
