They guy I know that broke it did it in his XJ running 37" Krawlers and was hammering the snot out of the skinny pedal so it wasn't much of a surprise. His was an early kit (I think made some time on late 04/early 05) and they took care of him well. Still don't know anyone who has broken a stock shaft. Only two that have bent them at the flange.

Thanks Pete.

I know of one other guy who broke a Superior shaft and called them up and got it replaced. Same thing as yours as it was a very clean break. On my TJ 8.8 we welded the center section and never had one issue. Just a couple of stitch welds on either side. I also agree about the diff cover and run a SOLID cover. I don't like the idea of running one spacer on the axle. I run 3.75"bs wheels and had no issues on my TJ and don't expect any on my MJ. Does anyone know what the measurements are from the center section for the axle perches? My 8.8 should be ready to go in next week.

Well I got a smoking deal on a set of brand new Rough Country drop brackets so I am going to go with those for now and will plan on long arms possibly after the new year.
-
I'm going to start building a set in about two weeks for my SB. I will document them and provide dimensions for those interested.

I have had good luck with some of their stuff -4" grinders -band saw -chop saw -transmission jack -combo wrench set -upper end air tools Bad things -ball joint press -electric impact wrench Why not start a thread for the good and bad?

I think I have been banned from Pirate for the 3rd time :D I really do hate that place. JF just makes me laugh. Some of their TJ mods are complete assclowns.

Nopethey won't work. The connections are all J cables that run through the mount. Though I am going to work on one of the magnetic GPS antennas. Mine is getting mounted in the bed right behind the cab. the PNW is pretty tough on stuff and i have broke or lost 3 the as many years with them mounted on the tail of my TJ.

I read it. I just didn't remember while I was typing  Never the less, give them a chance to clear it. I do see him on here quite a bit.

Have you even contacted them yet? Give them a chance to explain what is going on before you start jumping all over the net. I have waited a lot longer for parts then 13 days. It took me almost 6 weeks to get leaf packs from Rusty's. I won't ever go into my buddy Chris who waited 9 months for an Atlas that never showed up. He finally went with a STAK instead. Just out of curiosity what did you order?

Well I am thinking of going with a Clayton's style set up. I will most likely build it from scratch but it will be a very similar design. Just seems there is not a lot of people out there who have run LAs on an MJ.

My plan is to incorporate an exo for the cab. I am hoping to have it done by the end of the year.

Thanks Pete. Nobody else?

Brake loose the hub nut (36mm) before you jack up the axle. Then stick it on a jack stand so it's a little higher than the other side and you are good ;)

Can this header be welded?
bryans87MJ replied to MiNi Beast's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Don't bother it will only crack again. I welded one up for a buddy and it lasted 2 months before it cracked in a new spot. Just get one of the e-bay ones with the flex areas in it for $120 and be done with it. -
OK so my MJ is getting closer to being done. At least now it is running after an all week battle finding the correct alternator. Then in the middle of that I noticed the water pump was leaking so I took care of that. Anyways, one thing I am looking at doing in the not so distant future is long arms. I have had Rock Krawler's set up on my XJ and they worked very well. I did some searching and about the only solid info I found was that people ran into issues with the TnT set up. So does anyone have some good info on how well Clayton's or Rock Krawler mate up to the MJ?

what type of posi is this?
bryans87MJ replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Looks like a spool to me but I am not familiar with the F 9". -
I had the RK 3 link set up on my 98 XJ and it worked very well. That is what I plan o using for pre-made long arms if I don't build my own.

bryans87MJ replied to bryans87MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Nope the alt was in the truck when I got it. I saw the same pictures on Rock Auto and that is what I came up with as well. I too don't know nearly as much about the 2.5 as I do the 4.0 since all my other Jeeps have been the 4.0 and this is becoming a learning experience. I will go to Autozone and order a new one tomorrow. If everything works out this MJ up and running by the end of the week. Within two weeks I hope to have the rear axle in and welded up. Then I just need a rear driveline and 4.10 front axle  -

bryans87MJ replied to bryans87MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
OK so here is a couple pics: As you can see this one does not have the V notch before the sepr belt grooves on the pulley. This is a 1987, 2.5L, 2wd (technically), manual trans, no A/C Comanche. From everything I have found (not much) it is the wrong one. Comments? -

1987, it's in the title. It is a serp belt and I will get pics today when I get home from work. -
OK, I think I have the wrong alt in my MJ project. Basically the pulley doesn't seem to line up with the rest of them. I am thinking it is a A/C model. Does anyone have a similar setup that they can get a pic of the alt? I will get a pic of mine tomorrow. Just one more thing I need to work on :wall:

Adding a 1" lift question
bryans87MJ replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Oh and as a tech tip, get some PB Blaster and start soaking those bolts about a week before you start. It will make it a lot easier when the time comes. -
Adding a 1" lift question
bryans87MJ replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have dealt with Rocky-Road Outfittes before and as long as they have it in stock they are good. I have used their spacers and never had a problem with them. Shackles are pretty hard to screw up too. $90 is a pretty good deal on the parts. Remember it's not really the lift that will kill your gas mileage but rather the running of larger tires and adding weight.
