dimmer switch or headlamp switch?
-
guys, on my 87 2.5 the dash lights work but don't dim. they go straight to off when I turn the headlamp switch. also the heater panel lights aren't working. it's not the buld cause every once in a while they will come on then right off again. are the 2 tied into each other? is there a separate fuse for the dimmer?

New Scam Warning: Men are the Target! Women often receive warnings about protecting themselves at the mall and in dark parking lots, etc. This is the first warning I have seen for men. I wanted to pass it on in case you haven't heard about it.... A 'heads up' for those men who may be regular customers at Lowe's, Home Depot, Costco, or even Wal-Mart. This one caught me totally by surprise. Over the last month I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping. Simply going out to get supplies has turned out to be quite traumatic. Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you or your friends. Here's how the scam works; Two nice looking, college-age girls will come over to your car or truck as you are packing your purchases into your vehicle. They both start wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex, with their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T-shirts. (It's impossible not to look). When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say 'No' but instead ask for a ride to McDonald's. You agree and they climb into the vehicle. On the way, they start undressing. Then one of them starts crawling all over you, while the other one steals your wallet. I had my wallet stolen June 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, again on the 17th, 20th, 24th, and the 29th. Also July 1st, 4th, 8th, twice on the 16th & 17th, and very likely again this upcoming weekend. So tell your friends to be careful. What a horrible way to take advantage of us older men. Warn your friends to be vigilant. Wal-Mart has wallets on sale for $2.99 each. I found even cheaper ones for $.99 at the Dollar Store and bought them out in three of their stores. Also, you never get to eat at McDonald's. I've already lost 11 pounds just running back and forth from Lowe's, to Home Depot, to Wal-Mart. So please, send this on to all the older men that you know and warn them to be on the lookout for this scam. The best times are just before lunch and around 4:30 in the afternoon.

+1 on all of the above. great outfit to deal with. they not only have almost everything I need for the truck but also a full line of parts for my 86 bmw too
-
had the battery tested while the truck was running by the parts store. the tester read 11.5 and the guy said it should read around 15 while running. the battery is good as this happened before and I had it checked out.

will get you this pic up tomorrow. 87 2.5 with air-conditioning. it just looks like it's going to be real tight from top or bottom if I don't pull the ac which I really don't want to do. Do you mind posting a picture of you engine. I would like to see the layout of the accessories and belt. Mine is some Frankenstein from a previous owner and trying to calibrate myself on what is normal.

don't know anything about the internal workings. would that be the problem?? or could it be something else? it is a newer alternator, and is only charging at 11.5 volts. would that be the brushes?
-
guys, my alternator is only charging at 11.5 volts and causing a dead battery issue. I am going to replace it. my question here is, the truck has air-conditioning so do I have to remove that to do the job or can I squeeze it out with out taking off the compressor? any other tips will also be appreciated. this alternator isn't very old and put on by the po. I do know that they can be bad right out of the box but is there anything else that would cause this undercharging issue?

job complete. truck sounds great. both pipes, cat and muffler.
-
so, my new hardware is here and the front pipe has an o2 sensor port where as the old pipe doesn't. the present o2 sensor is in the manifold. part#'s are correct. I do have a new mani that i'm going to install at a future timeand it has a plug in the sensor port. question is, can I install my new sensor into the pipe and leave the old one in the exhaust manifold as a plug till i do the manifold job. if all this makes sense. also. I have the flange gasket for the pipe to the cat and I also bought another piece (packing)is what rock auto calls it. it is listed in the exhaust hardware dropdown for my 87 2.5. it is a silver metal ring. does it go into the joint where the cat bolts up to the exhaust pipe? I can't find a diagram of it in the Haynes manual.
