  1. They are welded on. I specifically avoided the cast mounts. It is a full width 1/2 ton truck axle that I'm going to narrow. Willy
  2. Got another delivery today. With their soon to be added Longfield beadlocks. Willy
  3. 4 Wheel Parts. They've got them for $110. Willy
  4. Picked up a differential cover last night. Willy
  5. Yes. It's got a few other nice parts that I should be able to get some money out of - NP435, 9 inch rear, 390 engine. The transfer case is a single speed Dana 21, but we've got a lot of racers around here that may be able to give it a home. 8) Willy
  6. Delivery - Ford rotors and loaded Chevy calipers. Nice milky gear oil and 3.54 gears. Removed most of the stuff from the axle. Now I just need to beat those old drums off. Willy
  7. Dana 44 out in an hour. Not bad when I find the motivation to pry my butt off the couch. Willy
  8. Collecting more parts. Picked up some Ford 5x5.5" hub assemblies with Mile Marker hubs. Willy
  9. Some friends got some great shots at Trail Jamboree. Most of the MJ shots were taken the two days before Jamboree as we were pre-running the trails. I broke halfway through the first official day of Jamboree. I thought this was a great sequence as we busted through the snow drifts. This was the drift that turned us back. We knew we weren't getting a group of 15 rigs through here without constant winching and an overnight stay. Nobody else was interested in trying, so of course I had to. Going up... ...and over... Had to winch back up the other side. View from the top. Going up the crack at Funny Rocks. The first official day of Trail Jamboree. This is what ended my day. :shake: Here we are removing the inner shafts so we can get it back to camp. Moab trying to help. Willy
  10. Congratulations on the move! Do you still have the XJ? How are you getting it to CA? Willy
  11. Let the build begin. A D44 has been sourced. ....it just happens to be attached to a bunch of other stuff. :hmm: Willy
  12. We're in early discussions for a Rubicon trip next summer. Want to be our tour guide? Willy
  13. I see you are now in Tahoe. How long will you be there? Willy
  14. The 8.8 ECTED seems to be working pretty well. Much better than the D30 ever did. I have no desire to get rid of it until it starts giving me problems. Willy
  15. Had an incredible time at Trail Jamboree last week. Great views, great wheeling, and a busted ring gear. It was just the dog and I so not many pictures of the MJ. The damage. Time for a D44. Our group also had a broken leaf spring... ...yoke strap bolt... ...and twisted the frame and body enough to separate the steering shaft at the steering box. We also had a spring break on a CJ-5 that holds the shift lever in place. More pics here. Willy
  16. I don't think you need to worry about your catalytic converter. For over 30+ years almost all of them survived hundreds of thousands of miles each. Willy
  17. Was the proper break in oil used? There seems to be a lot of misinformation out there about the removal of zinc from current oils. After sorting through the SPOBI I've found most reliable sources concur that the lack of zinc isn't an issue after break in. Willy
  18. Last weekend was our annual Liberty trip. We had great weather almost the entire weekend. The scenery was incredible and we had a great time. This spot gave a couple of the short wheelbase guys some trouble. More pics here. Willy
  19. Alloy USA is still around. They were bought out a couple of years ago. The new owners do not honor the old warranties. It may depend upon when you purchased your shafts. Last I heard - which was a couple of years ago - several of the old Alloy USA guys had started Ten Factory and were trying to work with those who had purchased their shafts through the old Alloy USA. Willy
  20. Jeeps will wait. Take care of yourself and best wishes on the surgery. Willy
  21. I was wrong. There were nuts on the back side. Willy
  22. Any advice on how to lubricate the cable/chain that runs from the handle to the window? I can feel that the exterior facing side of the guide is open. My thought was to put some grease on my finger and attempt to stuff it in this opening. Is there a better way or something I should use other than grease? Is there a way to lubricate the mechanism that attaches to the handle too? Thanks, Willy
  23. Is anybody familiar with how to remove this type of side mirror? It is a different style than what was on the driver's side. On the driver's side there was a plastic cover that popped off and allowed access to the mounting screws. I tried the same approach with this mirror but if there is a cover it doesn't want to pop off. I want to keep it intact if possible to use on the other MJ. From inside the door I can see that the mounting screws are threaded to the door and there is no backing nut that needs to be removed from inside. Thanks, Willy
  24. Saturday was a beautiful day spent at the junk yard. Found a few things for both of our MJs. Found some real mirrors, turn signals, and headlight/turn signal bezels for this one. Picked up some fixed vent windows and a multi-function switch for the '91. Found a few other goodies that weren't needed, but couldn't pass up - a Kevin's Offroad track bar bracket, JKS adjustable track bar, and Deb found a vintage gas can. Then, on the way home, we stopped by a garage sale and found a set of Simpson 4 point harnesses for $50. Last night I installed the mirrors. The only XJs at the junk yard with intact mirrors were chrome. :ack: Out came the sand paper and paint in an attempt to cover the hideous chrome plastic. We'll see how long the paint holds up. :D Now I've got to figure out how to remove the old passenger side mirror. It is a different style that what was on the driver's side. I'm attempting not to destroy it so that I can put it on the '91. Willy
  25. Am I the only one in the PNW who hasn't had a HP 44 fall in my lap? :fs2: Nice find. If you happen to come across another I've got a good home for it. Willy
