  1. I looked up a past post about converting from 2wd to 4wd. The person who answered the post said one thing needed is a 4wd transmission. I didn't realize there was a difference.
  2. I just fabricated a couple of brackets, screwed them to the back wall of the cab behind the seat. I just ran out in the freezing cold, high wind, and dark to take these
  3. I don't see anything on my distributor but the plug wires. Does it matter that it's a 4 cyl.?
  4. When I bought my 76 J-10 in 2000, parts were difficult to find. You had to be relentles, and resorsefull. In the past years some members of the IFSJA have been re-manufacturing some parts, comming up with new part sorces. What I'm trying to say is, oue Jeep comunity will most likely pull thrugh. Just my $.0.02.
  5. Are there any good sorces for Comanche parts, new parts. I don't mean the big, useless chains. At the IFSJA for example there is BJ'S Offroad, Z&M etc. For example, I'd like to find a temp. guage. The AutoZones etc. have no clue. While I'm on the subject, can you replace an "idiot light" with a real guage with no big modification?
  6. I want to install an after market tach in the Comanche. I'm pretty sure which wire goes where, but one goes to the (-) side of the coil. I don't see a coil here. Is this what replaced the coil in later years?? Image Not Found If so, where the heck do I hook up the tach???????? Thanx, Jim

    1984 J20

Welcome to "the dark side". I own a 76 J-10. I bought it in October 2000. Put alot of blood, sweat & money into it.....I still love it....even though it's been off the road (not in a good way) for a couple of years. That's why I bought my Comanche, that and a real good price. The J-10 will come back to life!!!!! If you don't know about this site, check it out asap; http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/ I can't say how much I've learned from them. I'm on that site also. Good luck my friend, look forward to seeing posts from you. Jim

  10. blah blah
  11. I replaced the clutch master cylinder last week. I bench bled it and hooked it up. Everything seems fine, but sometimes there is a little hitch when shifting. Is there a way to get any air out of the system?
  12. Wow !!! I got the right nut right off, then the left.... I got the wrench on it Image Not Found but couldn't turn it Image Not Found this side wouldn't even get on it, so a socket is out of the question Image Not Found the wrench fits this way, hummmm, I saw a post on the IFSJA a while back, and thought I'd try it Image Not Found Worked like a charm, getting it off, and back on. Still on the subject of who designed this thing, what genius decided to locate it directly above the fuse box. Of course it leaked fluid onto/into the box. Image Not Found Removal, cleaning (hopefully enough) then re-assembling this little sweetheart was REALLY fun!
  13. I think it was only leaking about a week. when I pulled it from the firewall it was dripping liquid thiugh. I got a can of electronic component cleaner that says it's safe for plastics & quick drying. I started giving it some blasts today...the box is still hanging in the truck & you need lot's of ventalation, so I'm don't want to fill the cab with fumes. I'll be spraying the rest of the week & hope for the best. Of corse I still have to replace the master cylinder before I put the box back in place.
  14. I pulled the fuse box away from the firewall inside the truck. It has a pretty good amount of brake fluid in it. Is there anything I can spray in there to clean it up??? I can't get into the back part , all the wires can't be individually cleaned. Some pics............... Is this some kind of electrical greese that should be there???? Pleas say yes?!?!?!??! It doesn't "look" like the brake fluid seeped in?
  15. I know.....just really frusterated & not sure if the thread would be followed. My bad.
  16. I posted a couple of times in the past couple of days about my clutch master cylinder leaking, and dripping on the fusebox. I've cleaned it as best as I could but today the battery light was on. The more I accelerated, the brighter it glowed, when I let up, it dimmed. Do you think this is related, or yet a new problem??? I do park the truck beside my 76 J-10 that has electrical gremlins.......have they jumed ship to the Comanche???????????????? :dunno:
  17. This afternoon when I started it to go home from work, the "battery" light was glowing. The more gas I gave it, it glowed brighter, and got dimmer when I let off. Could this be from the brake fluid dripping on the fuse box? It was really only dripping 2-3 days, about 1/2 of the volume of the cylinder was gone. Or maybe another problem......altenator??? :headpop:
  18. Can I unscrew the 4 screws holding the fuse box to the firewall and carefully pull it out a little so I can clean it up better? I really don't need it melting down on me.
  19. My bad on termanolagy, it is the cylinder on the fire wall. I'm guessing by feedback here, I had better check the "slave cylinder" also. I'm a newbie with Comanche's....I'm an IFSJA "crossover"...still own the FSJ
  20. I tried to wipe it down with some diluted Simple Green, I hope that's enough. It's really hard to get it real clean. Maybe I should go looking for another box....just in case?
  21. I cleaned up the fuse box as well as I could & stuck a plastic coffee "can" lid upsidedown under where it's leaking. I'll have to empty that every time I drive it....I CAN'T get a new cylinder for another week.....0 $$$ !!!!! Does the fluid short out the box or is it the carosive in the fluid?
  22. My 86 Comanche has dripping fluid on the driver's side mat. The slave cylinder for the clutch was REALLY low, NOT empty. I filled it, but it needs to be replaced. Can anyone whoe's done R&R give me some guidence? It "looks" like a "simple" job, but we all know how that works. Thanx!!
  23. There was someone I saw replying to a thread who had detailed pics of all sorts of options they added to their MJ. If you see this post please reply. Otherwise, does anyone else have pics of all the possible options for Comanches? Doesn't matter what year, as long as it's OEM to a Comanche.
  24. Well it ended up being something stupid. Some PO did a couple of "custom" connections in the wiring under the bed. They failed, they were re-connected, and now all is well.
  25. I pulled out the front signal, and see no ground, just wires from the signal, & marker light going thrugh a hole to the unknown. Is there another way to get to the front ground?
