Started to clean up the Roll-bar a little bit to prep for eventual new skin... There was some "multi-decade" old Duct Tape and a bumper sticker up top that needed to come off, and I knocked off all the loose rust/paint that I could with a wire wheel. I don't have any POR15 (or any place local that sells it), so I was thinking about just some good coats with spray "Krylon Rust Proof", which I've had good luck with in the past, and I don't live in overly "rusty" location (even though this bar was "local", and you can see what the front mounts look like) Also, I don't know that I'll ever run fog lights up there, but I'm weighing going ahead and running a pair of wires through the bar and leave a disconnect or something just in case.

This guy is down to $750 and sounds like he is getting desperate to sell...said he has the paperwork on the engine "rebuild" and the tranny was a JY Swap... I could probably get for $500 but not sure it's worth it. He said it doesn't drive, "Flexpate issue" and it would have to be towed. If it was a "real" engine rebuild, it might be worth it. Sw2

Thanks mfpdm, that makes sense.... I watched water run down from the foam area at the bottom of the fan housing (in the red circle on my first pic there). I'm also doing this water testing with the rig parked in my driveway, which is probably at a 15-20% incline (I'm guessing, I've never measured), so I'm thinking the incline is also helping water to collect and drip in... I should try it on the street, or park backwards and try and see if I get the same pooling/dripping. Is the heater box the thing just above this with the foam "grate" looking thing? I'll also look a closer look at the hinge area to see if there are any cracks that could be letting water in, and I'll RTV the poo out of them. We are driving up to San Francisco for the day with the kids, but I will have more time to play this weekend. Sw2

Heat shrink butt splicing wires.

I looked today at the Home Depot and they didn't have any, just the old school crimping kind. -
With all due respect to Don (Hornbrod) and his favorite Maroon Elephant Mascot'ed team in the South, anyone that watched the Holiday Bowl this evening (Nebraska vs. U of Arizona) witnessed the BEST defensive football team in College Football this year, PERIOD, bar none, without a doubt...I honestly beleive that Alabama will NOT hold Texas like Nebraska did a couple weeks ago. (although I think ALA should win without too much problem). I would take Nebraska's 2009 Defense against ANY team, including Alabama, and I think they would keep them in the game (the Offense at times this year was putrid, thus the 4 losses). Discuss! SW2

OEM Skid Plate Interchange
SuperWade2 replied to SuperWade2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No, the hole should be there, but you'll probably need to put a thread-sert in it for the bolt. It was dark and cold (by CA Standards), and I really wanted to go watch my Huskers play their bowl game, so I could have just missed it... I'll look again during the day in the next day or two... is the "thread-sert" something easily found at my local auto parts places? -
OEM Skid Plate Interchange
SuperWade2 replied to SuperWade2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Got a T-Case Skid today... just taking a quick look, there is no holes in the frame where that side of the skid should mount... I didn't read the link on the last post, but I assume that's to be expected? Sw2 -
Well, I thought I had my leak situation under control... I was wrong!!!! I had the interior all reinstalled, was playing with a new center console and my pass.side floor was SOAKED...again... I just came in from soaking the outside with a hose (AGAIN)... It seems that the water is coming from the foam seal thing behind this (heater core?). The White stuff is a combo of my last hack job of silicon and baby powder that I didn't clean up that well. I already replaced the rubber Cowl to Hood Seal, but there is still water running in here; Any other suggestions, this is getting old, fast!

I don't know what the rules of the classifieds section is for pimping your own Ebay auctions for stuff, but these tail lights I picked up and put on ebay are already over $100 (20 bids) with over 2.5 days remaining... Surprised... I felt bad paying $28.99/each for them at the time, but I guess I shouldn't have too bad... Here is a link for anyone that might be interested in following along... If someone one CC.Com wins them for some crazy reason, PM me and we'll work out a deal (at least free shipping  ) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... ESELX%3AIT the Bucket Seat Bracket/Sliders havn't run up as much as I thought they might... Only $20 so far - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... ESELX%3AIT

Heat shrink butt splicing wires.
SuperWade2 replied to AmJay's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've used these also... they are basically dummy solder + shrink wrap's in one... Heat enough to melt the little solder balls inside positioned over the wire connection and then the shrink wrap "shrinky-dinks" up and makes everything happy. I need to get some more...I can't find my electric soldering gun and my portable one is out of gas... I wish I had a handful of these things now... NO crimping involved... -
OEM Skid Plate Interchange
SuperWade2 replied to SuperWade2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks Eagle, that's what I was looking for... and I meant T-Case when I typed Tranny, but you caught my typo first.... -
OK... I'm still on the hunt for OEM Skids for my my MJ... Can someone help me fill out the Stock Skid Interchange between a Comanche (SWB/LWB) and Cherokee, for final use on a MJ... I know the SWB and LWB Comanche Gas Tank Skids are different but didnt' know what else would work with what. Engine Skid 2.5/4.0L use same Skid, Cherokee/Comanche? Tranny Skid Auto/Manual, Cherokee/Comanche? Gas Tank Skid SWB Comanche LWB Comanche No Interchange with Cherokee?

Well, I started to test fit my new 97 XJ Full Console when I realized that I have more standing water, mostly on the passenger side, so I went ahead and pulled the entire interior (AGAIN)... So now I get do to more water tests, and I thought I had the leaks figured out. I guess not... If I could PAY someone to just fix all my interior leaks for me, I'd pay good money for that!!! REALLY REALLY REALLY Frustrating.

Full Console from an 97 XJ in the 89 MJ?
SuperWade2 replied to SuperWade2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Doing a little test fitting now... I think the back will be OK...and the screw by the T-Case handle matches, up, but on the right side of the Stick, there is nothing to bolt it up too...might have to try to fab up something (that I'm HORRIBLE at). There will be a gap up front, but not sure how much that will bother me... I guess I'll see... -
Not Chrome, painted silverish (or so it appears), but not "shiny" like chrome... selling... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... ESELX%3AIT ...and I would have posted here first, but felt guilty for having to ask any of the guys here what I paid for them at the yard yesterday just to break even... I wasn't paying attention when I got rung up... I hoped that someone on eBay might want it bad enough so I didn't lose my shirt.

No worries, I might have left em in the 97 XJ that I pulled the center console out of...oh well, they were cheapys I think. Yah, the switch was gone yesterday already before I got there too (I pulled the Trans Power/Comfort Switch panel, not that I have a use for it, but I thought someone might)... I usually walk thru looking for the lebaron vents, but was already in there too long yesterday. I was also hoping to find an engine skid (or tranny or gas tank skids), but I've never seen one on any of the XJ's even that are out there (was hoping the Laredo may have had them on still). Wade well i didnt see them in the xj either but i sure want to go back and get the tranny and t case and doors or atleast the tcase but i don't got any more money and i forgot to check and see what they went for . u wouldnt happen to know? I'm guessing they would have been $$$...that PnP seems to always gouge, and I haven't seen a 50% day or anything special recently. The $16 I paid for the full XJ Console (with Shift boot and mounting bracket) is the best deal I've ever got there... I would have been more upset about what they charged me for the Tail-lights if that hadn't been such a decent deal.

Full Console from an 97 XJ in the 89 MJ?
SuperWade2 replied to SuperWade2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks, doesn't look too bad... no ebrake to move. I think it only cost me $16 for the whole console with shiftboot and mounting stuff, so I'm not out that much if it doesn't work out. I also picked up an MJ Full Console Black Instert (with the eBrake slot blocked out) that I could move over to my existing XJ console if the other one doesn't work out. Wade -
It had the power windows that I considered getting too, but ran outta time, let me know if you find a pair of dykes in the driver side floor
