Well guys, I got out of the Comanche business today. Sold my MJ this morning (see this ad: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=15804 ). I've had it since 1994, so it is a sad farewell, but it went to a good owner. An older gentleman who "likes to tinker" and just wants it for fishing and stuff. So I know he'll take great care of it. Didn't even bat an eyelash at the asking price and paid the full $2500 I was asking. My sister bought a brand new Comanche in 88, a 4cyl 2wd longbed Pioneer. We've had one in our family ever since. My dad still has a 92 4x4 shortbed that he'll probably get around to selling soon. It's a sad ending and I hope to have a fullsize Jeep pickup someday soon to fill my Jeep truck urge, but in the meanwhile I still own my 98 TJ and I'm up to my neck in the restoration of my 74 CJ-5, so I've got plenty of Jeepin to keep me going. But I'll be bidding the Comanche Club a fond farewell until we meet again. Happy Jeepin!

JoAnne Fabrics, as Eagle said, carries it, along with the adhesive. I didn't care for any of the colors they had in stock so I just picked a nice thick solid color flannel from their racks that matches my interior pretty well. Worked fine. The real headliner material has the foam backing that allows a little unevenness in the headliner without showing, the flannel I used shows some bumps and waves in the backing board, but who cares, it looks pretty good and set me back a whopping $6 for the fabric. I think the glue was around $3. The real headliner fabric was about twice as expensive as other material.

If a fullsize Wagoneer with a 401 can run 13.8 why is it so hard to believe that an MJ can run in the 10's? Anyone notice the 4x4 badges on that 10-second MJ?

Where's the yard? Is it a you-pull-it type? -
Recall the caution about getting in a rush to "assume" something and instead making an "@$$ of u and me" Nothing political in my statement at all, I just happen to not be into 40-something white trash chicks with a litter full of puppies at home who is a couple months away from grandmother-dom. No thanks. You might be a redneck if your grandchild is 6 months older than your youngest child...

Wouldn't touch that whitetrash skank with someone else's d*(#. Especially after she $#!& out 5 or 6 kids.

No, the original engine in the M-715 was the Jeep 230 OHC "Tornado" inline 6. Not the AMC 232 or 258 (which are identical in outward appearance, both with the intake and exhause on the left side unlike the engine in this picture). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep_Tornado_engine The 230 OHC Tornado had the intake on the left and exhaust on the right. http://www.oramagazine.com/pastIssues/0 ... le=oldiron

Very Smurfy color. Looks similar to my 87, which is medium blue metallic.

Don't forget the pilot bushing. It's a different size. If you do a bit of internet searching you should be able to find the right one. When I did this same swap in my 87 about 8 years ago I measured the internal and external diameters with calipers and went to the parts store to find a match.

There was no 5spd available in a J-truck ever. So double check that. Very likely a 3spd, but it could possibly be a T-18 4 spd.

MJ stalling when i take it out of gear.
Pathkiller replied to 500-comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
CPS will cause a random stall at any speed, and is not idle-related. Very rarely the CPS will fail intermittently and the Jeep will die and then restart again. More often it fails completely and it won't' start no matter what. It's a complete pain to change because it's located at the very top of the bellhousing. -
What's this have to do with Jeeps for sale? Post stuff like this in the off topic please.

Quick question about 1987 drivetrain
Pathkiller replied to CrankShaftKid's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Maybe depending on the build date? My 87 definitely came with the NP231. -
Loose Steering w/popping noise

No, the trackbar, not the swaybar. Look at the end link while someone turns the wheel back and forth quickly. You'll see a lot of movement if it's worn out. -
I once swapped a manual tranny for an auto in an 89 XJ. The mechanical side was a piece of cake, but splicing in the auto tranny controller was a bit trickier. So I finally got it all together and running and the bloody thing wouldn't shift! Ran great and would shift fine manually but wouldn't shift automatically. After a couple of days of troubleshooting I finally realized that the inline fuse in your picture was blown. Replaced it and problem solved! Shifted just fine. Without this fuse you have essentially a manual valve body, the transmission will hold in whatever gear you select. If I recall correctly some guys on NAXJA were wiring a switch in this circuit to give them full manual control at the flip of a switch for off-roading.

All I know is that it has to do with the auto tranny controller. IF you pull that fuse the tranny won't automatically shift, it will shift up and down with the shifter but not on its own.

Just bought a 88 pioneer
Pathkiller replied to Mattpioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well if it makes you feel any better your MJ was designed by AMC well before Chrysler came into the Jeep picture. 88 was the first year of Chrysler ownership, but your Jeep is still essentially an AMC product. My 87 still has the AMC logo keys. Since you're only 16 you may not know about AMC, but the American Motors Corporation was a great American car company and it's a shame they're not still around. -
What color's your interior? I've got a good condition light blue bench that I took out when I swapped in my buckets. Just taking up garage space, it's yours if you want it. No brackets but if you're swapping for your existing bench then you don't' need em anyway.

Familiar territory! I lived in Roseburg 3 years and worked out of the Toketee Ranger Station in the Diamond Lake District for a few years. I've got a few pics of my own of my Comanche in that Cascade snow. Good times!

Coconut is my preferred flavor!

I agree with Wahoo, I HATE that bubble roof that AEV makes. Not crazy about that goofy hood either. I guess it makes sense if you swap in a V-10 or a Hemi and need the heat reduction, but with a stock engine it makes no sense and just looks a little too Road Warrior-ish for my taste.

Mine's not white, but it's an original 87 base model with no decals. Just a thin double pinstripe on the bodyline that is really hard to see. I prefer the no stripe, no decal, no nothing look. I took off my 4x4 emblems because I think they're redundant, it should be obvious that this thing is four wheel drive.

Thanks Wahoo. There's a whole lot of misinformation and negativity about retreads. No doubt there were some really bad ones in the past, but technology has come a long way. These are essentially remanufactured tires, with the new tread vulcanized to the carcass.
