I'll give her the phone number and part number, and tell her to order 6 of those. I've sourced a good block and good head from a "running when pulled" renix. not bad for free :) I need to get the pistons, cam, crank and rebuild kit, add the machine work and I'll be set.

I hadn't thought of the FM modulator route. Belkin makes a nice one that fits in a cupholder, it holds the iPod, charges it and trasmits. Nice piece of kit, but it's like $79. There are cheaper ones to be had, you could even get a generic radiohack one for $25.

yeah I got mine at autozone for like $30. I don't expect it to last long. I built a hood over the connectors and wires in the firewall, and above the fuseblock to protect it. It's some ghetto sheetmetal, but I don't want to go through the fusebox again

I got a full complement of ratcheting box end wrenches, a molded tool case for my 290 Pc mechanics set I got last year, so no more digging for sockets. I also got a set of Torx drivers for my ratchets. Overall it was a good Jeep christmas if you include the stereo I got a few days before. Next year I'm asking for stroker parts :)

I drove my 'scort on a tranny like that for 2 years. It never died. Seems to be what they do. I think mine was the pump not developing the pressure to make the torque converter work properly. Only happened when it was cold.

Yeah, I had the $25 wal mart special that sucked hard. I just had the front speakers in the door, at least your K-mart one has four speaker outputs! The 10 yr old Jensen CD player in the escort had no lights, I just mashed buttons when I needed something to happen...

http://www.allchryslerparts.com/ I went aftermarket just because it had to be back on the road as my DD and I was the uber broke at the time. I expect to replace it in a year. Pay the man now or pay him later, I chose to pay later.

a/c, what's that? My MJ didn't even come with A/c. Oh wel, it will make it easier to add OBA :-D

Peter, How's that foam/speaker carpet working out? I'm missing my headliner, and having a sunroof I don't want to make a new one. Your solution looks pretty good. I hate driving around in a trashcan! Any tips for an install?

not sure, but I don't think the Ipod is going to put out a proper voltage for the amp. Nominal headphone voltage is somewhere around 2.5v if I recall correctly. Preamps put out 4. Best bet, go and find a cheap HU with an aux in. I had one that I found at wal-mart (the evil) that was 25 bucks. I mounted it in a premade sub box with a gel cell battery to make a portable boombox for my Sat radio. Durabrand I think. It sucked, but it did have an Aux in, and I was broke.

that's really not that expensive of a project. Last I checked VIA c3 boards were about 180, ram about 50, HDD 80. So he's probably got around $500 in it with GPS. I'd rather do that then spend $1000 on subs and amps. Hell I already feel "ghetto rich" in the MJ. Considering I just put in a head unit that cost 1/10th what the truck did.

people behind you are gonna love that!

I don't have a sub box, just the 5 1/4s in the doors and the 6x9s in the b-pillar. THumps just fine with composite speakers all around and the aformentioned JVC HU. You're more than likely going to have to go with a sealed box because of the space constraints. Take that into consideration when you're sub shopping. You might also want to consider a bazooka tube, they usually fit in trucks. If I were to build a box for the MJ I would extend it under the seat for more volume, and make it sealed.

I had to deal with this issue not long ago. The difference in bores is something that I couldn't figure out. I ended up going to NAPA and telling them that I had an 87 with an AX-15, not the original Puegueot. They sorted it out for me. I imagine the different bores could be because of that reason. I'd call the parts store and get someone knowledgable, or just tell them a year that has the tranny you have if it's not original

I think the difference in power was what 13 HP? If you can feel the difference of 13 HP then your @$$ dyno is more tuned than mine. His wrangler probably feels peppier due to lower gears or lighter weight. I agree with Peter that the electronics part of changing the motor is not worth it. In the short time that I've had my Renix system I've grown to like it. The system is dirt simple, with only a few sensors that will cause an engine to not run. It has a very low count of singple point failures. A poorly running engine is either due to worn out mechanicals or something sending the ECU bad information. I'd start out by checking the compression in the cylinders. If the top end of the motor seems to be ok then I'd move on to Fuel pressure, Injectors and spark/timing in that order. Find yourself a copy of the renix service manual. It's most helpful. I learned all about the Renix system when my MJ wouldn't start a few months back.

http://flickr.com/photos/74249553@N00/51756122/ my interior the day I bought it. She's since been cleaned up, had a new head unit installed and had my sirius tuner permanently mounted to te dash. I'll snap a photo tomorrow. BTW, th AW4 is an awesome auto tranny. If you really want manual shifting then go here. www.awshifting.com Consider this, it's very similar to the tranny used in supras, and those guys have some ridiculous horsepower and torque flowing through them.

payload rating for a standard comanche is around 1400lbs. Metric tonne@2200. I'm 90% sure of those numbers, but it's always that 10% that hoses me.

I was just bustin balls. I've seen it happen to an auto. I had a Chrysler Sundance. Worked just fine till I got a bug up my @$$ about changing the tranny fluid. Changed it out, 1000 miles later the tranny slipped. Of course it was an auto. So I've resigned myself to standards if possible.
-
Same 4.0 But different exhaust tubes. if you want the flowmaster then just buy it and have a muffler shop do the pipe work. Shouldn't be that expensive if you find a local guy.

and you think your pukegoat is dying from a fluid change

I believe so. I just had this conversation with Peter. So He'l probably drop in on this. You have to adapt your clutch hydraulic hose to the external slave sylinder. It's just a compression fitting. There may be some other small items like bearings and such, but you should be replacing those anyway if you're going to have the tranny out. I've been doing a lot of research on it, and it's bascially a drop in affair. -
So what's your MJ rockin with? I just ditched my "durabrand" tape player that was in the MJ. Santa gave me a nice JVC unit with aux inputs for my Sirius tuner. ow she's rockin with xpold 5.25's and pioneer 6x9's in the b-pillar. The speakers came in the truck, so I can't complain. now the manche got bumps. My new deck
