Well I have sat back and read all of these posts. I once tow dollied a CJ with Pong, when pong was riding around on 30's  it wasnt the smartest thing I ever did. it was only for 30 miles, and that was way to far in my opinon :brows: . The money you save by towing your own rig is really small in comparison to what it could cost you if something breaks or you have an accident. Or you can do like some of us have, and buy a truck that is capable of towing what you want

Everything can fit with a few wel placed swipes with a cut off wheel :brows:

Tghe alternator is very easy to damage the rear bearing on it... trust me you wil know when it happens.. the alt will lock up, and then your belt will start to smoke.. and lastly it will break, hopefully you will notice this happening, and not ruin your engine from running it hot

Thats just too funny  but you read my mind :wrench:

I just was able to get on the site... I asked about the leafs in the post

Header difference: 95 XJ HO4.0 vs. 88 MJ 4.0
pingpong replied to ORCA's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
depends if your state has emission testing :brows: -
nope no wroky for me :hateputers:

It might have been scarey. it worked though  Theres just as much weld holding the bumper brackets to the frame as ther is holding that reciever hitch on...1/4" plate versus 1/4 inch c-channel... which is stronger :dunno: I do know that that thing was bashed pretty hard at Paragon, and Crozet.. and no issues. Remember your welds are only as strong as the host material. Incedentally all welds were made using 7018 rods :D

brake question. (little update)
pingpong replied to Twisty's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
it wouldnt be that much more, and the effort would probrably be less work, and better braking -
Also the D70 gears and lockers are pretty expensive. I am going to take my d60 and have the spindles bored out (150 at local machine shop) and order a set of 35 spline Yukon alloy shafts (80 bucks a side) and swap in a 35 spline locker, or weld up the 35 spline side gears I all ready have :D As far as it being overkill.... build it so it won't break, and you only build once 1000 is the going rate for a d60. If you get one out of a newer ford, remember it will be a ball joint d60 and uses expensive unit bearings... they say a king pin d60 is stronger, but either way you are light yrs ahead of the strength and reliabilty of a d30, and a d44

I believe there might be some clearance issue with the slant six, but they could be overcame with a lil modding.. I think that would be a great swap there

The reciever wasn't meant to tow... It has been used as a recovery point though :brows: I never towed with Pong... so the towing part was a non-issue... and when I built the bumper... I didnt have the D-rings, and needed a recovery point. Yes I built that bumper, and at one time it had some corner rocker bars on it :hmm: I wonder what happened to them ;) If I still had a MJ with a bed, and frame I could make them... Problem is shipping is a B1tch, as I build my junk out of 3/16 and 1/4 inch, and weight goes up real quick

I have been having trouble getting the Richmond jeepers site to open up...

Well I am still unsure what I am going to use for a drivetrain.. I was thinking maybe a crate 350, or some other easy to find and cheap to build motor... some kind of fuel injection... I am unsure of what axles I am going to use... those f250 axles were suppose to go into Pong.. but who knows now... The bead locks are going to go on Casper.. or ebay.. not sure yet
-
I beleive in 97 or 99 ford changed to a metric bolt pattern on their axles... It just makes it harder to match rims from front to rear.
-
This is the carcass of Big lime This is a front f250 D44 Thats the rear d60 out of the same rig here is the np435 and np 205 t-case here is a pic of some 5 on 5.5 beadlocks I acquired So what do you all think The CJ5 was free... all I had to do was go pick it up.. It originally had links front and rear, with 350/350/d300 combo for the drivetrain... now all I have to do is decide what I want to do with it

The ZJ housings are aluminum  that might explain the different cover.. I swear they look a whole lot like 8.8 discs.... did you grab the rotors, and ebrake crap as well?
-
Ijust seen where you had to nothch your frame.. why did you have to do that :hmm:
-
I am not sure about the Terra kit not being made for high torque situations... I have seen quite a few behind some.... never mind.. I have only seedn them behind stright sixes come to think of it
-
I see you didnt have the heart to cut your lower qtrs  Looks good man
-
are those pics of the ZJ brakes? If so they look alot like the brakes on an 8.8

When I did my SYE I also had to cut one of ... no biggie.. just a bit of a PITA... As for wethere or not I would do it.. or put a different t-case in.. To set up a d300 you need a flip kit, and an adpater... if you have a 21 spline tranny (expensive NOVAl sell one with adapter, and input shaft for 368), then you figure 4 to 1 kit (500-600 from JB conversions) Did I mention new seal kit.. (I think I seen them for 75)... The d300 is not the best choice.. if you don't all ready have one, or if you plan on keeping drivers side drop... Atlas II they are kinda pricey, but a new 4 spd one can be had for aropund 2500-2700 Then you can go the route of np 203 and np205 doubler.. if you have both cases.. still looking at 700-1000 for everything... Best option in my opinion is the 4 to 1 terra low kit.. les work, and 4 to 1

Why not head to the local pick a part and buy you another 20buck manifold.... Everytime I go to the UWI, I look for 4.0's that have had the engine or FI pulled to pick up the easy manifold :D I got a few extra's in the garage :brows:
-
I know everyone is sold on the NV3350, or the nv4500, but has anyone ever considered the NP435... I know it is only a 4spd, but they are cheap, easy to find, and just about indestructible.I know of one guy in the club I belong to is running it behind his 2.5, and he loves it. Just some food for thought

comanche noob... whats best?
pingpong replied to decurion's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Also think about what you want to do with tthe rig. IF you want a trail beater find one with a rougher body, and good drivetrain, or if you plan on changing axles and motors find a 2wd 5spd.... its all about choices. Also the HO motors don't get as good of fuel economy as the Renix era motors.. don't ask me why cause I don't know
