Found a 4.2 for 2.8 swap

Recommended Posts

Hey has anyone done a 4.2 to 2.8 swap in a 1986 4x4 Jeep comanche with the 5 spd tranny? Any help would be great, my friend said he'd give me the engine with carb for free and hopefully I could take advantage of this opportunity without too many modifications to the firewall. any advice or thinks to look for would be great.

thanks,

no, you'd be doing the same amount of work that you'd need to do to put a 4.0 in.

the transmission from your 2.8 won't bolt up to the 4.2 much less hold the power. motor mounts won't work, and the header needs swapped out to 4.0 rad support plus altering firewall to fit and building exhaust.

get a 4.0. they're cheap.

Take the "FREE" 4.2, Sell it, use the money to buy a 4.0 = Still Free...

BETTER.

Get the Free 4.2, get a 4.0, and build a 4.5.

And kiss the rest of the truck's drivetrain goodbye. :D

He's going from a 2.8 so he's gotta get a new tranny anyway...

This is just my opinion, but it would be totally worth it.
