The non-disco was used on all year NP242 equipped XJ's and than all XJ's 91+. As far as I can tell, the disco survived in XJs through 93. Then was abolished in 94. There are junkyards in car-part.com that have 92s and 93s listed as disconnects. Although there are way more 90s and 91s listed than 92/93. If you run a locker in a non disconect front the front drive shaft will turn everytime the jeep moves though. sometimes causing more driveline vibration on the highway. If you run a locker in a non disconect front the front drive shaft will turn everytime the jeep moves though. sometimes causing more driveline vibration on the highway. Even disconnect axles will turn while moving. Just not as fast. I can even see how a disconnect would be harder on the diff, since the spiders are going to see a lot more wear and tear. Her old '90 (late 1990 build date) as well did not have the disco axle. We've also got several local guys in the club with 91's and 92's with the non-disco axle with the NP231. I personally have not seen a 90+ XJ with the NP231 with the disco axle.... Upon my research the switch was made the same time the AW4 went from 21 spline to 23 spline (1990). Rebecca's 1st XJ (1990) also had the 23 spline AW4; which somewhat to me proved this fact since her's had the non-disco axle as well. But we all know how DC is; so who really knows.... Actually.... 89-95 with ABS have 5-297x u-joints, all 95+ have 5-297x u-joints, all others have 5-260x u-joints. So non-ABS from 84-95 have the smaller 260x joints; meaning that the 91-95 non disco non ABS axle's have the smaller joints. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
