Door molding falling off

Recommended Posts

The black molding that runs the length of the truck (the one that protects the paint from other car doors hitting the paint) is peeling off my passenger side door. What can I use to get it to stick back on? Or where can I order a new one?

I'm pretty sure it can just be glued back on, but I don't know off hand what to use. It happened to a friend of mine recently and her neighbor fixed it for her. If I remember I'll ask him what he used.

Thanks, It looks like it happened to my driver side before. And they put it back on then used two screws at the front of it.

On my dads xj this happened and we used LORD Adhesives (i believe its a 3m brand), Its normaly used on the ends of studs or strait to letters to hold signage up on a wall. you just mix it, lay it, leave it. oh, and make sure to get all of the glue off your hands within minutes of applying, when the glue sets it lets off lots of heat.

Pull the piece completely off, then scrape off all remaining adhesive on both the rubber trim piece and the body. A heat gun and/or GOO-Gone and a sharp putty knife works well. Then clean up the trim and body with rubbing alcohol, and re-attach using 1/2" 3M double-sided tape.

Thanks, That sounds easier than the other way.

There's a specific type of double-face tape made for the purpose. Any auto parts place should have it with the paint and body supplies. It's cleverly called "molding & emblem tape."

That sound like just what I need to rehang the "Comanche" emblem back on the fender, thanks yall.
