Making my first trip to the pick-your-butt type of junkyard.....got an 88 2wd MJ.....

Just wondering what are the essential things I should be looking for, besides a 4x4 drivetrain?

Just to hit a few of the more commonly wanted items.

-Good bucket seats

-Complete guage cluster

-Working interior lights

-D44 rear axle

-Light bar (aka: roll bar)

In addition to the good stuff mentioned already:

Mirrors

Nicer or cleaner dash/trim pieces

Bumpers

Center console

Save all of the screws, electrical connectors, lightbulbs and fuses that you come across that are good. They are CHEAP at junkyards but will nickel and dime you to death when you need to go buy them elsewhere...

Have Fun, Yards are a blast to go to.

I would also grab the badges and the headliner if it is in good shape. where I live there are very few j/y that let you get your own stuff.

Here's what I look for when I go,

MJ parts.

If I'm lucky enough to find an MJ, Anything that is MJ specific (interior pieces, rear fender flares, tailgate, tail lights, rear bumper, side rear vents, driveshaft for 4x4, headliner as long as the headliner form is ok, dome lights, cargo light, rollbar, metric ton leaf packs)

XJ parts.

2dr buckets because they fold forward.

XJ/MJ parts

Black interior pieces because they are very hard to find.

D44's

tow hooks

I don't need most of this, however I like to get things to help others out here and locally. Which reminds me, I need to clean out the garage again of extra parts. :brows:
