I found an 89 LWB comanche with a 4.0 5speed with 120k miles on it not to far from me. It has rust in the usual areas rockers wheel wells etc, but it doesn't run. He said about a couple mounths ago it wouldn't rev up then it lost spark all together. He told me to make an offer. Whats it worth and what could the problem be.

here's some pics.

Not good but you get the idea.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

What's it worth? That's pretty subjective. It's up to you and what your skills are. I wouldn't pay a damn thing for a unibody truck with rust in the rockers, but I spent more than a year looking for my truck and paid waaaay too much for it. Maybe you can do body work or just don't mind the rust, but you're still looking at a truck with an ignition problem that someone else has already given up on. On that truck the usual gremlin is the crank position sensor. Some guys get them to run by unplugging them and plugging them back in. Could be the coil, could be any number of things. The fact that it wouldn't rev before it stopped working makes me wonder, but I'm not the guy to break down what that could mean. Mine is clean and supposedly ran great, and I've been chasing an intermittant no-start for a week now. Right now I'd swap it straight across for a rusted out truck with a bad CPS in a heartbeat. Wouldn't it be great if you get it for like $500, unplug the CPS, plug it back in, then drive it away?

'89 stock sportruck, Non-running, with typical rust........$250 tops.

Only because it has the 4.0, 4wd.

You want to pass it on, I'll run down 219 and pick it up :D

I paid $600 for mine with rust in the cab corners and over the passenger wheel well, and a blown rear end. Its all up to you, and how much you'd pay. You also have to think, do I want to get myself into this truck with it's problems. I personally would go for it at a maximum of $500.

I'd say it's worth between $300 and $500.

Most likely needs a CPS. That may (or may not) cause some funky symptoms before crapping out entirely. Other times, it runs perfect right up to the day it doesn't run at all.

Could also have multiple problems. Not revving could mean a plugged catalytic converter.

Well I offered the guy $300 for the truck and he hasn't answered me back yet. I think thats his way of saying up yours.
