4WD light wont shut off?

Recommended Posts

The vacuum switch in the t-case is probably stuck. Sometimes you can free it up by taking it out and cleaning it, but typically it is best to replace it. It is on the left side and has a plug of 4 vacuum lines going to it. Unplug the lines and it screws out.

yeah, you got to drop the T-case to do that though, I was just under mine looking at the vacuum lines cause it hasn't been work right, and i couldn't even get my hand to where i could touch the lines going into the T-case.

Transfer case goes in and outta 4WD just fine but the "part time" light is always on....wheres the connector or anything for that?....thanks

Mines on all the time too... I just ignore it... it blinks every now and then...

Not at all helpful I know, but that's what I do best!

:hmm: I have never seen one that you have to drop the t-case. I have changed these many times and it only takes 5 minutes or less.

Is there something different about the '86 than other models??

i'm talking about the vacuum lines going into the T-case between the floor of the truck and the top of the T-case. those are vacuum lines right?

If you lay on the ground on the driver side of your truck and look up under it you should see something that looks like this... ;)

DANG... you totally just beat me to the "This Thread is Worthless with Pics" Emoticons... I will take a look at mine tonight when I'm finishing my Ball Joints...

What did you use, or how did you clean it, or is this a replacement (Part #?)

Mine is an '88 but I have never see one on a Jeep be in a different place. I have changed them on many different Jeeps and they have all been in the same place. It has to be on the end of the case where the shift rod can push it.

I have not worked on an '86 before and I know that they used the V-6 engine, so there is obviously something different about the t-case that I haven't seen.

OK...I went and looked up a 207 since every Jeep that I have owned or worked on has been a 231. Yes...that would make the difference and the switch is on the front of the shift shaft instead of the rear so it would be a little harder to get to, but not impossible to do with the case in the truck.

Is that a replacement? If so, do you have a Part number?

Thanks

Wade

Sure... Part# 53001101
