mjeff87 Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I cut the fronts off my fenders, but the 33's are rubbing bad when stuffing. Anyone here cut the back part of the flares out and have a pic or two I can go by? I'm thinking of cutting them flush with the lower body line, about even with where I cut the fronts. TIA, Jeff
mjeff87 Posted January 28, 2008 Author Posted January 28, 2008 ummm, yeah, just like such ;) You wouldn't have a close-up pic of either side, would you? I'm trying to figure out how far the metal sticks out once the flare is removed, and what to do with the inner fender. Thanks! Jeff
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I just trimmed the wife's XJ the exact same way to fit 33's. I'll snap a close up tonight when she gets home from work as I kept the inner plastic on her's unlike on my MJ.
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 ^^^^^;)^^^^^ Jeff I know... been busy. I'll get to it in the morning when it's light out.
mjeff87 Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 just ribbin' ya a bit :D I just got a brandy-new cordless sawzall for Christmas....used it to cut the fronts, and it's begging me to do some more work on the rear this weekend :brows: I'm taking the MJ up to the local garage tomorrow for inspection, and fully expecting the yoculs to fail it for some obscure reason, so I'll have this weekend to tinker with it. Jeff

tjbliley Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 he can put his TJ tires on to pass inspection. that is not a problem, but they will find something.

Yes, but it's still a PITA to have to work on the rig to pass inspection, then put it back like you like only to risk some yahoo cop ticketing you later on. No inspections here, but with some of the total junk running around sometimes makes you wish there were at least a cursory inspection. Even insurance is optional.
mjeff87 Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 yeah, I'm not sweating the flares...like Jerry said, I can toss the 31's back on to pass. It's all the other stuff, being lifted 5+ inches and non-stock componentry (I think that's a word :D ) in the front end, plus I have a few holes in the floorboards on the underside (but all new metal cab-side), and I chopped my exhaust right behind the muffler. Trust me, they'll find something :headpop:
HOrnbrod Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 componentry, dayemed if I know if that's a word. :D Sounds good though. Jeff, your rig though is built right, and not likely to mechanically fail and wipe someone out. Thought I'd never say this, but I'd prefer some kind of state inspection here if only to limit some of the demolition derby looking wrecks that freely cruise around here. And then if one of these junks run into you, chances are they have no insurance, so your insurers have to suck up the bill, then guess what happens? More $$ on your policy. Oh well, the weather's better though.........

mjeff87 Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 where's the ROTFLMAO smiley at when I need it????? the shop just called me...... "your brake shoes are on backwards" "huh, didn't know that. Is that a fail?" "yes, it is. Can you turn them or do you want us to?" "I'll do it, and bring it back up on Monday" "well....if you can turn them, I'll tell 'em to put a sticker on then. But you HAVE to turn them...long shoe goes in the rear" I <> Virginia.... Jeff Image Not Found
HOrnbrod Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 you have do do safety checks in VA? do do? do you?
james750 Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 no, in CO we just have to pass emissions testing once every few years or pass 2 "ecofriendly" stations along the highway that reads emissions while u drive by. No safety chks
