I just ordered the degreaser, metal prep, and clear coating. Apparently this stuff is hard to find locally. What do I need to know before I use this stuff? Do I need to pull out all of the old sealer and apply some fresh sealer? I'm spending a lot of money on sound dampening materials, so I don't want to make any mistakes here.
Pete M Posted July 23 Posted July 23 I would leave the seam sealer alone if there isn't any sign of rust. if there's any hint of rust at the edge of some sealer, I would use a wire brush on a drill or grinder to explore how far it goes. keep in mind that preventing water intrusion is the single most important step to preventing rot. the floors are complicated and you cannot rustproof every nook and crevice. heck, if it stays dry, you can leave it completely alone and it'll be just fine forever
jodawill Posted Monday at 09:13 PM Author Posted Monday at 09:13 PM I haven't finished the floor yet, but I was flushing the radiator last night and I discovered that water can pour straight through the heater core seal. I found this when I took the cap off the reservoir and let the water flood out of it. Should I be concerned at all? It's not like there should normally be a lot of water there. Should I spread some seam sealer over it?
Pete M Posted Tuesday at 03:00 AM Posted Tuesday at 03:00 AM in the last truck I glued the foam to the truck with a bead of rtv and then added a bit more to the engine side (like caulking) after the original bead had set.
