thejeepmanwithcrocs Posted December 30, 2025 Posted December 30, 2025 so i have a previous thread where i got my brake lights fixed because of a wire to the brake light switch and turn signals not working because of a bad flasher. well radio and blower motor weren't working either so after i replaced those fuses they now work great! but my fuse for "park lamp" socket has melted into the block and i no longer have taillights or brake lights, but the turn signals in the rear still work. ive taken off both lights and they look funky so I'm going to try and upload photos for advice to see if this weird wiring job could be the culprit of my melted fuse or not. i have work around for the fuse but there's no point in doing that yet until i figure out why it melted in the first place. the sockets look real burnt and nasty but i saw a video of a guy with the same thing and no issues. but these ground wires the way they are spliced makes me concerned
thejeepmanwithcrocs Posted December 30, 2025 Author Posted December 30, 2025 more shots of the sockets
thejeepmanwithcrocs Posted December 30, 2025 Author Posted December 30, 2025 and this is the block with the melted fuse
thejeepmanwithcrocs Posted December 30, 2025 Author Posted December 30, 2025 also i have a parts truck with spare taillights i was going to use the sockets off of that truck.
Pete M Posted December 30, 2025 Posted December 30, 2025 chance are you're going to need to pull the box to repair. do you have a manual transmission?
watchamakalit Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 Pete: You can see the boot for the clutch master in one of the pics. Most likely case that Pete is aluding to is that the clutch master cylinder is or has leaked fluid onto the fuse block and "melted" the plastic. Common issue with our trucks. Best fix is a new master cylinder and a fresh fuse block, typically sourced from a xj with auto (No master to leak) trans.
thejeepmanwithcrocs Posted December 31, 2025 Author Posted December 31, 2025 So that’s why every fuse that was bad had some kind of corrosion on them??? Radio and blower motor??
thejeepmanwithcrocs Posted December 31, 2025 Author Posted December 31, 2025 I have a new master cylinder I’ve been needing to put in because I don’t have brakes until almost to the floor. I just wanted to get my lights working first. So it’s probably not a bad ground but just brake fluid that melted my fuse?
thejeepmanwithcrocs Posted December 31, 2025 Author Posted December 31, 2025 I just reread your thing. Your said clutch. I gotcha!

Pete M Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 not really, no. it honestly does anything a big phone does, but I much prefer my laptop/mouse (and the 32" tv that's my second screen) over any phone for using the internet, so the annoyances of the tiny phone are limited mostly to correcting voice-to-text on a teeny keyboard with my giant fingers.
thejeepmanwithcrocs Posted December 31, 2025 Author Posted December 31, 2025 So i can get my taillights back by going ahead and rerouting that fuse? until i can do a whole new block replacement?
Pete M Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 in theory, yes. but the fuse block should be a high priority at this point. it's only going to get worse. be sure to get a block from an automatic XJ so you can be sure it hasn't happened to that replacement block already.
Eagle_SX4 Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 You can get new terminals for the fuse box and crimp them on. Also this thread is shows how to rebuild you fuse block.

thejeepmanwithcrocs Posted January 1 Author Posted January 1 Update: my clutch stopped working on the way home from work today. So tail lights are the least of my worries now. 🤗
thejeepmanwithcrocs Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 No it’s leaking from the bell housing. That’s the slave cylinder gone bad right??
Pete M Posted January 7 Posted January 7 is it leaking brake fluid or engine oil from the bellhousing?
thejeepmanwithcrocs Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 its hard to tell from the pic but ill have to out my finger on it when i get home to really tell
thejeepmanwithcrocs Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 theres fluid in the clutch master cylinder. and no signs of leaks there. at least not right now lol. but the pedal doesnt have as much pressure as it did. i can go through all the gears while the truck is shutoff but if i start it i can't get it in any gear. tried pumping the pedal too and got nothing.
Pete M Posted January 8 Posted January 8 have you bled the system? usually that drip is engine oil (from the RMS, valve cover, oil filter adapter, etc), so it's important to confirm if yours is brake fluid.
