Engine swap in California

Hey guys 

so I’m trying to do the 97+ swap on my 88 Comanche. I’ve got a 2000 or 2001 donor xj that I’ve pulled everything from.  Both cars had fuel injected 4.0s and I’m swapping all the electronics and exhaust. I’m coming close to it being a running and driving car but I think it needs to be inspected by a BAR ref. If anyone has done an engine swap in California, specifically Southern cali, please lmk how to go about this. Thank you in advanced!

I have not as i do not live out in California but I just wanted to give you a heads up about the 2000-01 xj 4.0s.

The heads have weak castings and tend to crack between cylinders 3 and 4 right below the oil cap.

Thanks for the heads up @The86manche, my daily driver is a 01 so I’m aware of the issue. I have a spare tupy head for whichever one goes out first.

Haven’t done this but believe you need to call the state ref and setup a time for it to be inspected.
