need help/advice on an engine?

Recommended Posts

ok i got an 86 2.8 beast  and though it runs prity good i know the

bottom of the motor isnt in that great of shap and the way i drive , it aint

gona last long. i need to up grade wile i got the money and would like to

do the 3.4 swap because it is a direct swap and i can do it relitivly quick

but what I'm having trouble with is locating a sutible replacement.

I was orignaly gona get the gm HT 3.4 factory replacement but that is

gona run me close to 2 grand which almost blows my entire budget

(budget is $2300)and I'm not big on the getting the a J-yard motor of un

known orgin but it looks like that is what I'm gona half to do.

so where is the best place to get a good engin from ?????

o and i don't want to blow the budget on the engine because i got to fix a bunch of other stuf

thanks

I'd use car-part.com to locate a junkyard near me. Then I'd research each junkyard's warranty and determine which is best.

Or,

I'd hunt down a whole car that had a running engine (maybe a rear end collision or the like) which would allow me to determine the shape of the engine before buying and swapping.

i for got to mention that this was also a possible option . I found this site a couple of years ago and they have alot of stuf for the 60 V6

http://www.engine-parts.com/GMV6/gmv6custom.html

1)a 3.1 stroker kit $500

and build 1 of my spare engins

2)a 3.1 stroker short block $1100

purchas a cam and gaskets and put my curent heads on it, but still alot of money (curent heads are rebuilt largevalve heads)

3) 3.4 short block $1200

in the end it is still reaching the near cost of the GM HT 3.4
