Leaf spring suggestions please

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, it’s been a while.Hope all is well. Here’s my inquiry for help; I am ready to replace my old 4” lift Rusty’s brand leaf springs. I want to be a bit higher in the back than when these springs were brand new( I did not cut the bed wheel wells and not planning to do that).  So here’s my dilemma, Shall I install new stock or 1.5” springs and a SOA kit, or keep the springs under and go with a bigger arched spring? And the biggest arched spring that I can find is Rusty’s 4”. Please let me know what you think. And best brand springs. I know other places including my local area can manufacture springs, I just don’t know what information to give them for building. FYI , the front suspension is Clayton long arm with 4” coils and Aços adjustable spacers. I can change out the front coils if needed. The front fenders have been cut. 35” tires. Thank you, and all ideas are welcome.

I have other vehicles for daily driving and moving stuff. So my Comanche is really for some road and trail riding, not rock crawling and not deep mud., however I do want suspension travel. Which leads to a question that I will ask now, related to my dilemma, it’s a question I had anyway. Take two scenarios, which case has more travel in suspension, a truck with 1.5” lift spring and SOA,  or the same lift but it’s a 6.5” spring and no SOA.?? Thank you, Pete and Minebeast

hard to beat an old flat (relative to SUA lift packs) leafpack for travel unless you're spending top dollar for Deaver leafs.  SOA with 4wd leafs in decent shape should give you about 6" of lift.  of course, springwrap could be an issue, but that can be addressed with anti-wrap perches or a full-on antiwrap bar

Thank you, looks like I am going with new springs and foregoing the SOA. My old 4” arched springs are just old and dropped. Since I did not cut out the wheel wells on the bed, I need that clearance, and anything greater than 4”would be better. I do have 3/4” taller spring shackles.
