robfg67
I ran the MJ on a 50 mile highway trip yesterday on 88 degree heat, high humidity day and the temperature gauge increased slowly but hung around 230. It never got above that, but it was a little too close to the red for my liking. I've done my research and discovered that replacing the bottle with the 940 Volvo Turbo cap should help seal the system better, so I'll start there. Previous posts from many years ago say that the cap costs about $40. A Google search shows many caps for under $10. I found one on Amazon for $7.98; but want to be sure that I buy a good quality one. Any recommendations for where to get a good one?

robfg67
Looks original. Why do you ask?
cruiser54
Might be a good time to replace your radiator with one from an open system. Those pressure bottles and caps are very prone to failure and your radiator is likely partially clogged anyway.
robfg67
Would using the Prestone Flush Kit clear up most radiator clogs?
cruiser54
Not likely. Cross flow radiators are the worst for holding crud inside. https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NRCNR1193A
robfg67
Cruiser54, This truck is a money trap!!! Is this a direct replacement or does it have a radiator cap?
cruiser54
A replacement that has a radiator cap. Bolts right in. 35 years on the original radiator is hardly a money trap. I'm concerned that if you just replace the cap at this point, the bottle may fail. And I'm concerned about the radiator condition. Talk about spending money. Wait til your old radiator fails, or the coolant bottle, or the heater valve and almost all the coolant is gone instantly.
acfortier
Yeah, if you're pushing 230* I would probably start elsewhere than the cap. Replacing the radiator, if original, probably makes the most sense.
robfg67
I'm not arguing. "Money trap" encompasses all the things that I've spent money on-not just the cooling system. I'll do the full conversion. Can anyone recommend a good DIY write-up?

Classy Comanche
Or you can go thr route of my open cooling system. Bit more expensive...but can can still run the same radiator type. All the stuff I have is in my signature minus the radiator from napa
