Rhys Chalmers
I ordered new front brakes after they seized up on me from rock auto for a 1987 year comanche. The calipers were right but the rotors don't fit the hub. This particular truck has had 4wd swapped into it, I'm assuming from a cherokee but I'm not sure. I believe it's a dana 30 front axle. Could this be why the rotors don't fit? Looking at the master cylinder...it's not good. Definitely gonna need a new one. Since I have to replace the hub that has a broken stud, and replace master cylinder/entire front brake system, I'm thinking I might as well upgrade. My question is if I go for the WJ front brake upgrade do I need to get a different master cylinder? How do I identify the hub I currently have so if i decide not to upgrade i can at least replace it with the correct part?
Chad R
Looks like to me that is a 97-01 Dana
ghetdjc320
If you’re sticking with 31” or smaller tires, stick with stock brakes and maybe some black magic pads. Some good centric rotors as well. You have the later style knuckles on that axle (90+ style with the brake pad “wings” and floating calipers). I’d recommend going with say a 97 for all your parts. Get new skf or timken unit bearings (had better results with SKF for some reason lately) and Centric calipers for the same year. If you want to go with an off the shelf brake pad, I’d recommend centric posi-quiets and follow the break in procedure to the T. Can’t overstate how critical that is. On another note, you’ve got quite a bit of rust there . I’d get under there with a chip brush and some POR15 or similar.
75sv1
I did a quick check on Rock Auto. Sine your axle is a 91+ the rotors would be 91-99 or 2000-01 or + for TJ rotors. The hubs would be 91-99 and 2000 +. The rotors would match the hubs. If wanting to do WJ big brakes latter, then get 2000-01 XJ rotors and hubs. Ditto on SKF and Timkens. I did have an SKF go bad recently. The tire was puckering. The Schreodinger on the other side was OK. I did replace it recently. Sort of shot gun replacing parts for a popping sounds. Turned out to be the Transfer case.
75sv1
That should be Schoeffler. Mine were F.(l).A.G. take out the 'L'. Big name in Euro bearings.
