Second MJ

Just purchased my second MJ because my first one is on the East Coast and I'm missing it. I found a guy selling a 1989 long bed 4.0 manual. I paid $4,800 this thing runs like a champ.

 

In all of my crawling under it and checking it out before I bought it I never looked at the axles. When I get home my buddy is here taking a look at it with me and we realize it's got stock Dana 44s I am ecstatic. I did some digging and according to the tags and stamp the front has 3.31 and rear 3.07...

 

Previous owner already put a 3.5 lift on the front which is cool but the back was left stock. I'm thinking spring over axle in the rear I can't stand the squat. 

 

I'm looking forward to posting updates and getting some advice from the forum. he forum.

Cool, cool.  So has this been converted to 4x4 and the conversion not quite completed?

Its 4x4 stock it wasn't converted.

Pete, I'll take some in the morning I only have pictures of the stamps on the axle and data on the covers right now.

I guess it might be worth actually checking the axles to confirm that ratios.

Here are a few pictures of the axles.  The first two are the fronts and the others are the rears. I am definitely going to be opening them soon to check the actual gear ratios.

Looks like a D30 front and a D44 rear to me.

Looks  like I can't read also. I looked both up in the spicer drivetrain manual and must of looked at the wrong number. 

 

I stand corrected that is a 30 in the front. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll sit down now.

very common mistake.   all is good as long as you caught it before buying parts for a 44.    late model 30s will have the 44 sized ujoints in the axle shafts
