vanquishings
Hey, gang. Looking to upgrade the wheels and tires that came on my Manche. Thankfully, I've got a pretty good idea of what I'd like, but my tirediscounters didn't seem all too willing to help me when it came to specifications. Looking at a set of BFG AT KO2s in either 32.5 or 33.5, with some simple steel d hole steel wheels in black. I know the lug pattern is 5x4.5, and the thread pitch is 1.2x20 RH. But beyond that, is there any good way to figure out the backspacing and offset that would be best? Truck has 31s on it right now. Is there an easy way to measure a few spots to see if the larger tires would cause any issues? I checked for stickied threads to see if a tire how to was posted, but I may have missed it. Car can be seen here if you need photos of the lift/fender flares. Thanks!
thecodemonk
With those flares, a normal 15x8 wheel, you should be fine with 4.5 or even 4.0 backspacing for 32s or 33s. I ran bushwhacker flat flares on my XJ and ran 33s on 4" of backspacing and didn't have any issues rubbing (was running 3.5" lift at the time...think I even got away with 2" of lift for a while there, just didn't have much uptravel). vanquishings
Just got back from tire discounters. Death wobble is still as present as ever, but I'm not sure how much a proper alignment will help. Truck is definitely in need of it. Guys at tirediscounters weren't very helpful when it came to wheel selection. They only use one site, and unless I want 20" wheels, I've gotta source my own. They only had 2 options for 15" and both were over $200 each. 8 hours ago, thecodemonk said: With those flares, a normal 15x8 wheel, you should be fine with 4.5 or even 4.0 backspacing for 32s or 33s. thecodemonk
Yeah, 15” wheels are getting harder to come by. You could go 17”?
Airborne Janitor
33x12.50r15 BFG ATs are readily available from many retailers. As for wheels, as others have said 15x8 with 4-4.5 of backspacing is ideal. Try quadratec.com thats where I got my last few sets of wheels in that size. 4wheelparts.com may have some too. Virtually all aftermarket rims are in the 4.0" to 4.5" range. 31x10.50-15s on factory Jeep wheels will just clear the fenders and flares when the front suspension compresses, but will rub slightly on the lower control arms at full steering lock. The LCA rub can be cured by using WJ LCAs. Once you go to aftermarket rims, almost any tire (and certainly anything larger than stock) will hit the fender flares when the suspension compresses. Unless you are willing to hack your wheel openings, skip the aftermarket wheels.
