Whats the best way to start a vehicle with an ignition cylinder that will not budge and is currently in the lock position?  I don't have a good way of replacing the cylinder until i get it back to my place.  Is there a good way to jump start?  I've never done it so not really sure what needs to be done or the best way to do it.  Its a 88 4.0 Auto.

Actually……I almost wonder if one could get away with starting a Renix Jeep with the hood lamp plug, plugged into the coil and jumping the starter until it fires. That being said you wouldn’t be able to drive it because the ignition cylinder is locked and has the steering wheel locked. You’ll have to pull the wheel off either way and get to the ignition cylinder.

I am only starting it to verify the engine runs. I’ll winch it onto the trailer.

Ah. Then yeah give the method above a shot. It should in theory work as it supplies the ICM with voltage and light supply the ECU with voltage as it supplied the blower motor and everything else with power.

Penetrating oil in the cylinder to free up the pins? Make sure there isn’t something jammed in there?

If you’re missing the key, try one for another Jeep of a similar age… all of my Jeep keys will work in all of my Jeeps.
Because it’s an auto, there a chance the interlock cable is causing issues. Messing around with the shifter a little bit, pushing it all the way up to park, stands a slim chance of doing something.
