Cluster Speedo Swap

I still have my trucks original cluster, its just a plain 89 base model cluster with dummy lights and no tach. If I get the same style cluster from an 87 that has a tach and gauges, can I just unscrew the original speedo and swap it out with no problems? The only reason I wanna do this is for the odometer.

Yes you can swap the speedo with no issues as long as the housing is the same.

You will need to swap the oil and temp sensors for the gauge type senders.

Already done that, I have the black newer style tach cluster

the odo itself is adjustable.

How hard is it to adjust? I always kinda figured it would be made difficult on purpose.

It's illegal to falsify your odo for the purpose of tricking a future buyer to think the truck has less miles than it really has. 

 

it's not illegal to make your truck correct.

I've done the same thing to my jump as well as adjusting the odometer. It is doable and from what I remember there is a small C-clip you have to remove to pull the number wheels out. Careful with that as you don't want to lose that clip.
