Bounty Hunter
I've got my MJ loaded down pretty good with two D44's in the bed, and it's resting nicely on the overload springs. Great for hauling but I'm concerned it will greatly reduce flex when wheelin as the spring won't compress enough. Is it safe to remove the overloads? It sits a little high in the rear with the SOA and 5.5" coils, so I think it'd be pretty level without them. Of course once they're out I would miss the load capability. Ideas? DirtyComanche
I think if your leafs flex past the point where the overload would be hampering them, they're being overflexed anyways.
Pete M
And I had to extend the bumpstops to keep the tires out of the fenders and the shocks from collapsing. Not only did I keep the overloads (which go a long way toward reducing springwrap), I also have the extra main leaf in there. In my opinion, the reasons to keep them far out-weigh any reasons to remove them. Jeep on! --Pete
CWLONGSHOT
GRREAT POINT Pete!! The first thing I was gonna say is with out them you will get massive AXLEWRAP!!! don't do it!!! CW

XJ Maki
Yeah no complaint here either about the flex with the overload leafs....I remember reading sometime ago about flipping the overload leaf...anyone here try that?
Pete M
You can certainly try it if you'd like, but I;ve always figured my truck still has more upward flex to give and wouldn't see any benefit until I get really crazy with the wheel travel. Although... I plan to rebuild my packs this summer (using some rust-free leafs I bought while I was in Florida) and maybe I could play around with them to see what actually happens. Hmmm.... pingpong
http://www.off-road.com/jeep/cherokee/ http://www.off-road.com/jeep/cherokee/x ... -lift.html I believe there is an article the overload springs in the SOA configuration on this site
Pete M
Oh, I forgot to mention that my leafs sit on the overloads ALL the time. 2wd leafs don't have as much arch as 4wds and my truck isn't exactly a light-weight anymore. :D Jeep on! --Pete
87manche
I'm going to have to take a picture of my leaf springs. I've got a big one at the bottom that looks odd. Perhaps someone installed a helper spring.
commando14
Here's what happened to my springs after I removed the overloads with SOA. I was thinking it would give more flex and ride softer but it just bent the springs, only took a few weekends of wheelin. I replaced the springs and left the overloads in place this time, I can't tell much a difference in flex and it rides the same.
