only a matter of time before you're contemplating your 3rd or 4th :D

Lol. That was long ago sir.
I’m at 6 right now.  Tried to make it 7 recently too but got stood up by the guy after a 3hr one way drive.

Found a decent Transmission cooler on FBMP for half price. Picked that up and got it installed last night. Was going to make a fancy little bracket to mount the cooler but just ended up using the push through mounts supplied with the cooler. They actually hold the cooler really well. Would rather slightly damage a replaceable radiator than drill holes into the unibody. B9FAEAF3-3F8E-411C-B676-D65DCE345413.jpeg.a4ad85e5d601fe688de3fce3d03d0517.jpegBA4CCB27-6E9B-411C-AF02-D323E054C045.jpeg.c426c953686d5a3b5ec93a83d961fb0b.jpeg6D83EFC7-3AFF-40B0-BD6B-5E87E9D775BA.jpeg.92e40c7e9ed815e7898bc499284dc97f.jpeg29335BDE-D619-48F9-AA1D-B90C2C1A4E26.jpeg.47bc1ea42180caf2869746c82a1fda12.jpeg3E20CAFC-D085-4A02-81F4-23D7A68D1CE0.jpeg.67ae5332cfcd1d0286281c0889b5db56.jpeg

All of my 4wd MJs have greatly benefited from installing a power steering cooler. So I’ll get one here shortly for CommuteChe too.

Decided I was going to give the very neglected paint some attention tonight. It’s been bugging me lately how dull it is. Started off with NuFinish and 6” orbital buffer. Definitely showed there’s some potential to this old paint. I moved to the other side of the hood with a 2 stage turtle wax rubbing compound and polish to compare. Kinda like the “patina” with the shiny paint.FF7B0416-2619-4B66-A644-0B3F6B1F13C9.jpeg.3b5a4ee6b0dd5d196347d38f3c431447.jpeg4158868E-695E-42F2-9C7C-1427255460E0.jpeg.8c0ae2ef2c5677e20caa6ebeb2e33fd8.jpeg

image.jpg.3705779b1aeae8aba4a818b66ea60fbe.jpgSeems like it’s starting to come around.
Thinking the NuFinish is the way to go. One coat on the drivers side of NuFinish, passenger side was 2 coats rubbing compound one coat polish of Turtle Wax.

I’ve had a bearing growl towards the front of the engine that has been worsening lately and something started squeaking as well. Tonight I popped the hood and found the water pump bearings are shot, wobbly and squeaky. Luckily the local Napa had a pump in stock. 2F5CE9F9-D5A5-4999-BD65-E042400BAA3C.jpeg.681533680a08cc4acb5460d8b8798bf9.jpeg
Got the old pump removed and cleaned up the gasket surfaces. Was a straight forward enough replacement. Flushed out the block, radiator, heater hoses and heater core until the water was coming out clean.
I did end up reusing the metal tube that screws into the pump.

Did end up switching to a 180deg thermostat as well.
New pump installed

It’s been a while since I’ve had to do anything to CommuteChe. She is trucking along happily, doing the daily grind. Luckily, I switched job sites to a much closer location and we are only commuting about 20 miles per day, not the usual 100 miles per day, we have been doing the last year+.
It sure has been nice not driving through a half a tank of fuel per day.

I did recently take off the “lowering kit” to better prepare the truck for winter.  Put the stock coil springs and shackles back on. I do need to make another set of sway bar end links to work for the taller stance. Have been running without a rear sway bar for the last couple of weeks.

About 2 weeks after installing new rear speakers, the stock receiver took a dump of course, I had a birthday coming up and figured I could weasel myself into a new one from my parents. Luckily Mom and Dad love me very much and got me a nice new Alpine unit. Tonight I finally got around to getting it installed. Will be nice to have a radio again! Next in the audio department  is new front speakers, then possibly a small sub. 8B7EFA75-4E8E-4A8B-A0F0-427AD22C0A74.jpeg.0e45a2f65ff92534ae83d5a55277f933.jpeg

The second thermostat I’ve put in this truck got stuck open about a month ago. We have some cold weather coming in and I’d like to be warm on the drive into work so tonight I replaced the thermostat with a new one. 3377B038-ED2A-4255-B630-A777E99070F6.jpeg.dd420036623963b955b0d9de4af214aa.jpeg

I know I can pop the tabs down and reuse it, but if I have to take off the housing anyway, I’m installing a new thermostat. Ended up with this one. Made in Israel so hopefully it’s a good part.

CommuteChe has been running great. We hit the 40,000 mile mark together this morning.

Terrible pictures, sorry. Hard while driving down the highway in the rain

Thanks buddy. Sure makes you realize, just how many miles 100k is. Been driving this truck every single day, anytime I need to go anywhere for a year and a half now, and it’s only 40k! Except for wheeling and most firewood trips.

Earth is 24,901 miles around. So you’ve almost driven around the world twice!
