Wiring up Fog Lamps w/ stock harness

I want to add fogs to my Comanche, so I went to the JY and grabbed the headlight harness from an XJ (I think it was a 96). I was under the impression that I had all of the wiring from the cab to the 10-pin connector already there (BRN/WHT wire from the fog lamp switch), but after comparing the two, it seems that I might be missing another BLU wire?

 

On my truck, I have:

So I'm missing pins 9 and 1. On connector of the harness I snagged, There are wires in both pins 9 and 1, which I believe are both used by the fog light wiring.

Pin 9 on the connector I snagged is a BLU wire, and Pin 1 is a BLU/BLK. This is how the harness I pulled is wired:

Does this make sense? Do I need Pins 9 + 1 for this to work?

I did this and found it to be painless. Last I remember the Renix harness uses a light green with tracer wire for the fog lamp switch. I just simply removed one of the wires, out it in the factory harness and ran that wire that was just added to the fog lamp relay.  Thats without really molesting anything and real plug n play.

I thought it was going to be fairly plug n play, too. But it seems that I'm not quite following how it's wired up. I'm not sure I follow what you did either? You removed which wire?

So I took a wire from the JY harness. Terminal and all and I put it in the harness installed on my truck to where the fog lamp switch is wired up. I then followed instruction HOrnbrod posted many years ago and simply got it all installed from there. The headlamp harness connector does come apart to where you can add or subtract wires from it.

I do remember seeing this--thanks for that. However, do your fog lights stay on if you put the HI beams on?

Perfect, I want them to shut off when the HI beams are on. So it sounds like I don't have to worry about those other wires, and just follow the diagram above. Easy enough!

 

I'm assuming Pin 1 or 9 is 12V fused somewhere at the fuse panel, which would make sense.

That connector is unobtainium and a notorious un-sealed, corrosion prone POS that's placed in about the worst possible location. Believe me, I've tried to find out what it is and if I could get pins and connector bodies. It shares similarities with some stuff I've seen in older British stuff, and knowing AMC that doesn't surprise me. If that connector ever gives anyone problems, my default recommendation is to hack it off and replace it with a Deutsch connector... or anything, you know, good.

 

The front harness with fog lights was plug and play in my 91, but I'm thinking the front lighting harness wiring changed at some point between 91 and 96 to make them incompatible. I believe my harness was from either a 92 or 93 with factory fog lights - and like I said, plug and play once I added the switch inside the dash (the wiring inside the cab is already present), the bulb for the switch panel, a fuse in the engine bay fuse box (labeled AUX LAMPS), and switched out the front harness.

The load side of the fog lamp relay is fed 12V through the AUX LAMPS fuse in the power distribution center. Circuit F39 in the electrical manual. Pages 5 and 30-31.

Thanks! I'm not seeing that in the '88 electrical manual I'm looking at. Is there a newer one for '91?

Thanks! I'm seeing that the PNK/GRN wire that feeds the relay comes from the PDU... I have a 15A fuse in the AUX LAMP position, funny that I don't have a wire coming from it.

 

EDIT: I lied, I do have that PNK/GRN wire coming into the headlight harness, which must be coming from the AUX LAMP.
