MJ as a UTV?

NC just passed a law saying UTV's, mini trucks, and modified Utility trucks (not 4 wheelers)can now be driven on roads as of October 1, 2021. Depending on have certain equipment. Lights, brakes, etc. As of now, I can't register one of my Comanches. Bought it for parts but I'm entertaining making it a trail rig. Has anybody registered theirs as a UTV? Law even states if no VIN then the DMV must assign one. My VIN has been registered as Junk and can not be titled or driven on the road. That Vin can "disappear" Have I found a loophole that will allow me to drive it in some situations? (Nothing over 55mph and can be limited to 35mph.) It meets the engine size and wheelbase requirements. With all these heavily modified trail rigs out there, has anybody been able to do this? I know it's a stretch but what have i got to lose?

I wanna say its more like a moped golf cart deal. So many ccs for certain roads. Just want your money for stickers. Only sticker I know that doesn't give you hp gains. 

You can get a list of requirements for the tags from their online website site I'm sure. Just be a sensible driver. 👌

Also, width is measured in guidelines. Atv under 54", utv over 54".. which plays into the trail systems accessibility.

Modified utility vehicle. – A motor vehicle that (i) is manufactured or upfitted by a licensed manufacturer, dealer, or person or business otherwise engaged in vehicle manufacturing or modification for off-road use with equipment required by G.S. 20-121.1(2), G.S. 20-121.1(2a), except a vehicle identification number, and (ii) has four wheels, an engine displacement greater than 2,400 cubic centimeters, an overall length of 142 110 inches or greater, an overall width of 58 inches or greater, an overall height of 70 60 inches or greater, a maximum speed capability of 40 miles per hour or greater, and does not require an operator or passenger to straddle a seat. "Modified utility vehicle" does not include an all-terrain vehicle, golf cart, or utility vehicle, as defined in this section, or a riding lawn mower.

I think if you modified it to the point it didn't look like an MJ anymore and you built it more like a standard side by side style you could probably get away with it.  If it's an MJ you scratched all the VIN numbers off it may throw up red flags and you'd have to explain yourself.  

 

I think with the right person behind the desk you may get away with it but any DOT person who actually cares would probably reject it.
