My no231 is toast but, I'm parting my  xj will the  np231 from the xj fit my MJ?

Probably. Early Aw4s had 21 splines. I don't remember the cross over year but I think it was 1990?

My MJ is a 90 the xj is 94, I'm trying to get another ax-15 for the MJ

To my knowledge AX-15 was always 23-spline so 1994 XJ NP231 should be identical to any year AX-15 equipped NP231 MJ/XJ.

I've not yet seen a lick of evidence that the peugeot was ever 23 spline.
