zaconrad
I have a 1986 Jeep Comanche and today it started. Now when I turn off the ignition and take out the key it just keeps running. I just replaced the lock cylinder so I don't think its that. Any ideas?

Ωhm
Find that single red wire and make sure its not plug into anything except the Engine Compartment Lamp, if equipped. Wire is HOT at all times.
zaconrad
I have made no changes to the coil since it was driving fine. The red wire is were its supposed to be.
Ωhm
With ENGINE RUNNING and KEY OFF. Measure for B+ at D2_4. Should show 0vdc.
zaconrad
I don't have a diagnostic tool. Or is there something else that I'm missing?
jdog
That's a plug in the engine bay, should have a yellow dust cap on it. Using a dvom perform the test above.
Dzimm
I had this happen on my 95 once. I ended up pulling the battery cable to get it shut off. I cleaned up the battery terminals and hooked it back up and it hasn't done it since. No idea if the battery cables were the issue or not but worth a shot I suppose. zaconrad
I'm still having problems with the diagnosis.
Ωhm
Did you find the connectors D1 & D2? D2_4 pin is IGN SW feed (I1). With DVOM connected between D2_4 and Battery GND, KEY OFF, your voltage reading should show 0vdc, otherwise your IGN SW (I1) feed is shorted to voltage (B+). zaconrad
Ok I figured it out. I don't know how but I was having alternator issues wich was the result of this problem. After I fixed my alternator problem went away.
