Zenobian_84
Have had my '95 Orvis ZJ down for a while now doing work rebuilding the transmission, and was going to pull the interior to take a look at what the PO described as an "inoperative, and leaky" sunroof. Was told the gasket failed, as it has reflective duct tape around it, but I have not yet pulled it. Had to fix some of the holes in the roof anyway, and got all the leaks sorted out, (major, anyway). Question is, if the track / sunroof assembly is junk, are the WJ assemblies and sunroofs the same as the ZJ's? I just helped a buddy strip one WJ to put everything into another, and that got me thinking that near everything seems similar; but I have not had a ZJ apart like that in some time and cannot remember if this is true or not, sans wiring, probably. The SR gasket is no longer available anywhere, and I have no idea if the motor is still good (was handed a box of parts with the ZJ when I got it, extra security modules, FOBs, etc etc) and was told it "works", but haven't verified it since I owned it. Did some digging around and was informed at one point that the early 2000s Ford Escape sunroofs have a similar gasket, but it's a much tighter fit. Not sure I want to spend over a hundo to find out for sure though...
FrankTheDog
Cut a section of roof out of a junk ZJ and seam seal and rivet or bolt it in place and call it good. Put a headliner in from a non sunroof ZJ. Toss all sun roof junk in trash.
Pete M
is it leaking because of bad seals or rust or what?

I wish; worst case scenario, I'll clean it up and throw some sealant on it. 1 hour ago, Pete M said: is it leaking because of bad seals or rust or what? Was told that the rubber seal around the glass was cracked and frayed from the FL summertime sunshine. I assume that's why the duct tape was put there to "seal it". Like I said, I haven't pulled the tape, because I didn't want the water to come streaming in. I'm sure the tube seals are probably clogged as well. Going to scope out the pick and pulls down here this weekend and see if I can find a replacement. If I'm lucky they'll have a WJ and ZJ I can take measurements of. Pete M
it would shock me if the WJ shared anything with the ZJ. but hey, can't know for sure until ya try.

When the WJ came out Jeep has a commercial where they said the only thing they reused from the ZJ was the mirror screws.
Woitas123Zj
Hi, is there a place in US, which sells a brand new ZJ sunroof seal? In Europe it is impossible to found. Greetings from Poland
strictlyxjs
Have you checked the sunroof drains? They clog up and the water has nowhere to go so it makes it look like there is a leak. We sell complete zj sunroofs at my job and the drains are always clogged. They drain to a area where the antenna exits the unibody in the front passenger fender. There is also sound deading foam there that lets the crap that drains from the sunroof (pine needles, leaves, dirt,) collect and it rots out the fender. We always recommend to zj customers to remove the foam and flush out the drains with compresses air once in awhile.
