After a rough winter, I am getting back to some Jeep work. Next thing I worked on was putting on a front bumper. Standard XJ front bumper has the same mounts from what I can see. On my Comanche there are three slots/holes on each side. Two above and below are just holes and the back middle one (triangle formation) is threaded. In buying new bolts, I got (what I assumed was the right size from old rusted ones) 7/16-14 grade 5 (whatever all that means). I have the two on each side-the threaded was barely too large. Four bolts is fine with me, for now, instead of 6. I put washers on each side of the bolt even though I do not believe the hex head or nut would have popped through the opening. I sanded the bumper, removed a little rust, and removed 30 bumper stickers. It then got hit with the black paint.

After two failed scrap yard runs and a couple months of Craigslist/Facebook being unfruitful-I decided to just by some parts off Amazon - which proved to be cheaper than LKQ. Maybe the price they gave me included shipping, which would have been closer.

$176.20-header panel and grill

$219.11-both driver and passenger fender

Pic of the bumper mounted. Black looks pretty nice, IMO. I will probably mount the vacuum ball inside the bumper (I believe that’s where my XJs had it). Although if it’s just for HVAC, I plan to not have that anyways. Any guidance on consequences from not having one is appreciated!

New front fenders are on! They took some finagling to get them to fit (97-01). Need some more bolts as I didn’t have one for each slot. I put hex nuts and bolts on the bottom two that attach to the runner. Notice I still need a newer antenna plastic piece-as I forgot the old one would not sit flush. The grill to the header panel slide down my concrete driveway and got scratched and small cracks. SOOO I will be replacing that eventually. I sanded and painted it for now. Also did not have the screws to attach the grill so more bolts! I think it looks nice for now. Dry fit everything up for a pic-need nuts to hold on the header panel. I also spray painted the side of the truck to make sure some bondo spots disappeared and covered some bare metal for now. I really wanna cut the fender flares but they’re new-so hands off for now.

+$80 for nuts, bolts, various pieces.

+$.05 for my hood arm holder thing.

It’s pretty rough looking because when I 3D printed it-its an odd shape and needed supports. I’ll redo this at a later time.

I used a generic XJ file from Thingiverse. The top hole of two was larger-so needed some finagling.
