Bench seat head rest upgrade

Has anyone added head rests to a bench that doesn't already have them? if so how did you do it and where did you need to do it. i know pete is also wanting to do this.

Late 90-92 MJs had these seats.

I am, but I have the back frame from a headrest bench.  If you're talking about integrating headrests into a bench from scratch, that's more challenging, but where there's a welder and a will, there's a way.

ohh is that just a bolt on type thing

I sure hope so.    I haven't had the chance to take my 88's bench apart yet to see.     that project has taken a seriously back burner to other household things.

you will have to update me on it once you do it. if i do this it means i will own three benches.

if you ever have the chance to snag a bench with headrests, even if it is in horrible shape, don't hesitate.

yeah I definitely will. foam headrests must be comfy compared to my sliding class headrest

You know what. I bet if we all got a good look at a bare bench with the head rest holders, I bet we could easily add them.

that's... harder than you might think.  from what I remember the foam is not easily removed.  at least not without destroying it.  as if the frame was stuck into the mold and the foam than injected around it.

I was today years old when I found out that some bench seats had head rests! Wow.

The question remains, to swap or not to swap?

I have friends that have put their head through the back glass after the smallest of fender benders.  some still live with pain from the accident a decade later. 

 

the answer is to swap.
