Loosing Fuel Pressure

Recommended Posts

I come to you again seeking the infinite wisdom of the forum.

Backstory (how I broke it):

I decided to replace my manifold gasket, studs, and bolts to resolve a reoccurring vacuum leak issue I was having and the truck was running before I took it apart. I cleaned up the intake, painted the exhaust, and re-wrapped the wire harness on that part of the motor. So in the process of doing that I removed every sensor to clean everything properly.

What Is happening now:

So it is all back together now and shiny but now my truck will only run for about 3 seconds at most. I checked the fuel line and it gets up to pressure but drops to zero as it is running then shuts down. It also seems like my fuel pump is not priming the line until the engine starts turning, pretty sure it would prime before if you turned the key part way. I have swapped out the fuel pump relay with my AC relay and checked the pressure valve (which looks very new) and it is not leaking. No fuel leaks anywhere that I can see.

Any ideas?

Well I feel silly now. Woke up with fresh eyes and realized that I bumped this connector off this resistor. Runs just fine now!

yup, after a couple seconds of running, the power then only goes through the resistor and if it's bad or disconnected, the engine stops.  :L:  it's a great line to tap into for a anti-theft switch.  instead of looking for an obvious switch when nothing happens (such is the case with most anti-theft devices), the thief might just assume that the truck is just an old piece of crap because it starts but stutters and stops.
