Buy an aftermarket track bar and bracket.

Reusing the stock bracket is not worth doing.  The stock setup works fine in a stock truck, but it does not hold up long term with larger tires and lift.

As a FYI the new track bar you bought likely won't fit the bracket you have either.  They changed the size of the taper of the TRE type joint in 91~ (or something) and almost all of the aftermarket ones do not fit the old style bracket without reaming it out with the correct taper reamer.  Or maybe it was earlier than that.  I don't remember, like I said it's not a good setup anyways.

That Iron Rock track bar and bracket isn't a bad deal at $210.  The comparable RE one (RE1660 and RE1665, since they sell it as two parts) is $260.

Most of the steering upgrades sold for the XJ/MJ are hack and I would not recommend them.  Depending how much if you have just going with the V8 ZJ/late model XJ parts and flipping the driver's side tie rod is an inexpensive and reliable option.

This is good advice. The only thing i wasn't sure about was going from an articulating end joint / heim joint to a double shear setup would make it difficult to install or ride differently. But it looks like I'm in for 210. Or, rusty's has one with a frame stiffener as well for 220:

That "frame stiffener" isn't worth the $10.

Front reinforcement is nice as some support for the track bar mount does help it resist working it's way loose...the one pictured on Rusty's looks a bit flimsy, however and I'm not sure I'd count on it.

I used Full Traction's kit on the front of my XJ and it was solid once I got the brace on (it always tried to work it's way loose without the cross brace).  It worked well.

I have the TnT track bar kit on my MJ currently and am happy with it.

Iron Rock OffRoad's kit looks good too and I'm happy with their 3-link kit, so I would assume their track bar setup would be similarly good quality.

Thanks for all the advice. I ended up buying the Iron Rock Offroad one that was linked here. I thought about the Rustys kit but they wanted 83 bucks for shipping... just crazy.
