Trying to get my hands on an ax5 transmission and 231 transfer case for my 88.

Still learning this jeep stuff - was the AX5 only on the 4cyl jeeps? or was it before the Peugot BA?

There was someone on Seattle Craigslist parting out a 99 TJ that had a good AX5 for $300 but I see it's now listed as sold.

 

Always searching for AX15 and have seen these AX5's come up - usually ignore them, had no idea they were in MJ's

AX-5 was found behind the 4banger and the 2.8v6 (and 2.1 diesel)

 

peugeot was the early 4.0 stick, AX-15 was its replacement

My understanding is that the AX-5 really is no better than the BA10/5. It was stout enough for a stock 4 cylinder, but start adding more driven weight or input torque, you will most likely end up with issues.
