Drahcir495 Posted February 11, 2020 Posted February 11, 2020 Well I lost 2 & 4th gear in the XJ . I know this because obviously I can tell and AAMCO confirmed it. They quoted me 2100 to 2500. Yikes. It is 1990 4.0 AW4 4x4. I am buying another 4wd AW4 with 89k on it. It is a 93-95. My question is can I put it in and just attach everything from the 90? I already have the newer np242 ready to go in with matching spline count, so I am good there.
Pete M Posted February 11, 2020 Posted February 11, 2020 the link in my sig has a ton of AW4 swapping tech.

Here's a good link going over what AW4 works https://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1053970
krustyballer16 Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 Ya, I just swapped in a used aw4 in mine after I lost reverse. $150. It's easy to swap and you could do it 10 times for the cost of rebuilt to stock one.Just a heads up, I ran into this issue, if you have a 98 (and whatever other years apply) use the tranny mount that came with it in whatever year jeep you have. I fought my 01 tranny mount then realized I needed the 98 mount that I took off the swap tranny...Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
