Fryedaddy
I bought a set of Rustys 6.5” lift springs. I have a set of rough country 4.5” lift springs from my previous lift. They’re lengths are identical. The rustys spring looks thicker and has wider spacing between the coils. Maybe the compress less and give a harsher ride? I liked the rough country springs previously. I’m also installing the ACOS system but want a 6.5” lift without using the acos. Any suggestion? Send the rustys back and buy other springs? krustyballer16
It's not about just the length. It's the compression or whatever they call it. Once installed itll sit at "6.5 inches" I installed a set and got about 6" exactly. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
Minuit
The working height of a spring comes from a combination of the stiffness and uncompressed length. The Rusty's spring is stiffer both because the coils are thicker and are more closely spaced, so it will compress less when the vehicle's weight is on it... probably about 2" less. Springs are complicated.
Eagle
There are too many variables. Google up the formula for coil spring rate and you'll see that it involves the spring's free length, the coil diameter, the wire diameter, the number of coils, the number of free coils -- and probably another factor or two that I'm forgetting. Bottom line: you can't tell what the ride height will be by looking at them, you'll have to install them to find out. If they are going to ride 2 inches higher than a different set of coils with the same free length, then pretty obviously they are going to ride a lot stiffer. Dzimm
Yeah math and numbers^^^. The taller your springs are, generally the stiffer they will be. Run the Rusty's. You've got them already and they aren't bad. I've had both a 3" rough country lift and currently have a 4.5" Rusty's lift. The Rusty's kit has a slightly better ride quality in my experience and is a little nicer of a kit all around.
