MJ fuel gauge

Recommended Posts

My 89 MJ: 4.0, 4 spd Automatic on the column, 4x4, long bed,... lo_ line instrument gauge cluster; only large fuel gauge and speedo, lights for the rest ...The fuel gauge didn't work .... In the process of swapping in another one, the needle popped off!  It won't go back in/ on.  So I'm stuck ... No working fuel gauge!

Aside from swapping in another gauge or upgrading to a different gauge cluster, are there good aftermarket (autometer?) Gauges that will work with a Jeep fuel pump/ level sending unit?  I'm thinking of fabbing an entire gauge cluster with Autometer or similar reliable gauges.  I understand I'll need to change oil & water sending units, what about ammeter and fuel?

Thanks for any help, experiences you can share.

Greetings,

It read like 'Eric A' had the actual needle on that Jeep gauge physically fall off; may be I did read that otherwise.

I changed over from the 'Big Fuel Gauge' cluster to an earlier 'XJ 'cluster with a mechanical tachometer drive et cetera.

I have not adjusted the tachometer from and inline-six to an inline-four yet because I have a lot of time with engines and,

I am thankful; I have a marker pen too.

I really would like to get to calibrating the tachometer with my Comanche.

Thanks for help keeping me focused.
