Rustycnly
New member but definitely not new to jeeps. Currently I’m in the middle of swapping 4.0 4wd drivetrain and interior from a 99 Cherokee that I picked up for almost no money and low miles into my baby, my 89 mj that had the 2.5 2wd 5 speed. Everything this far has been fairly straight forward and within my skill level, motor and trans is in and most of the engine harness has been swapped and hooked up. I work in a body shop so I take parts off and put new ones on all day so that’s the easy part. The part I’m unsure of is when I go to wire up The new harness to the factory tail lights. I know that I’m going to have to do it because I’ve read other peoples write ups but the ones that I’ve read never explained what exactly had to be done. If someone could help me out (with visual aids ideally) or point me in the direction of another post that already covered this I’d really appreciate it A1524F9F-7A57-474B-A247-A376DDFF2BD1.MP4

coolwind57
^^^what is he talking about??? What frame? Not a response I'd want to get right off the bat if I were a newby, 1st-time poster here. Ignore the unhelpful comments Rustycnly. There's actually courteous, helpful people on here that I'm sure can actually address your inquiry. Pete M
there are some 97+ swap writeups in the link in my sig. I'm sure one of them will have a wire harness pinout.

WesD
I'd look for a wiring diagram of the 99, and compare it to a wiring diagram of the 89. I'd be surprised if there's a lot of difference in the rear wiring systems. Once you get the wires straightened out, I'd remove the connector right at the tailgate and splice it into the new harness so you can remove it again without cutting wires. Off-topic, does your removed 2.5 have the ac compressor bracket? I'm looking for one.
