Phillip Gwin
does anyone know how to take the shift handle apart? I cannot get the new shift boot over the large knuckle on the shift rod.
Jeep Driver
There are tabs that lock onto detents in the female stub, you need to stick something inbetween to unlock. There supposedly was a tool for this that no one has ever seen. Or, you can get yourself a Hurst/Core and chuck that sucker in the trash.
Phillip Gwin
I bet a feeler gauge would do it. I may still have one. On a side note, BFH has done nothing.

fiatslug87
Thanks for posting the vid. I've been wondering what's the "easiest" method.

Eagle
I'm glad to know the brute force method prevails. Years ago I asked the shop foreman at my dealer about borrowing their tool. He said they had it on the shelf for more than ten years and had never used it, so they eventually threw it out to make room for new tools.
