Phillip Gwin Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 does anyone know how to take the shift handle apart? I cannot get the new shift boot over the large knuckle on the shift rod.
Jeep Driver Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 There are tabs that lock onto detents in the female stub, you need to stick something inbetween to unlock. There supposedly was a tool for this that no one has ever seen. Or, you can get yourself a Hurst/Core and chuck that sucker in the trash.
Phillip Gwin Posted June 1, 2019 Author Posted June 1, 2019 I bet a feeler gauge would do it. I may still have one. On a side note, BFH has done nothing.
Phillip Gwin Posted June 1, 2019 Author Posted June 1, 2019 do you know if all 4 sides need to be pressed in at the same time?
fiatslug87 Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 Thanks for posting the vid. I've been wondering what's the "easiest" method.
Phillip Gwin Posted June 1, 2019 Author Posted June 1, 2019 okay, the video helped. a vise, a BFH, and a pickle fork, and it is off.
Eagle Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 I'm glad to know the brute force method prevails. Years ago I asked the shop foreman at my dealer about borrowing their tool. He said they had it on the shelf for more than ten years and had never used it, so they eventually threw it out to make room for new tools.
