What is this?

Recommended Posts

Stovepipe is the name of it, it goes between the exhaust manifold and the air box, it is designed to bring warm air to the air box when it is cold. It can be removed as most of them are torn because of the age, or you can buy a new one.

Its sole purpose is to direct heated air (heated by the exhaust manifold) to the airbox during a cold weather startup condition. Once underhood temperature rises enough, the airbox will switch from heated air (stovepipe) to the fresh air inlet.

But would it not be best to keep cooler more oxygen rich air than emissions around my intake?

if you pull the tube, what remains is just a simple heat shield on the exhaust pipe.  won't hurt anything.  the diverter in the airbox intake on the other hand should probably be removed.  :L:
