Wounded_Fighter Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 What purpose does the rocker bridge serve? Looking into replacement parts as a recommendation from a family friend, old jeep mechanic. He owns several... several jeeps, So I trust his word. Lifters, Rockers, rods. Lifters I'll probably go with mellings, Felpro head gasket and water pump gasket. Head Studs... I'm not sure yet I was looking at Harlands or scorpions for rockers, you know give the old girl some shiny jewelry. So then I thought of the bridges that are in place on the original rockers... search came up with only the original part and shims as an alternative? Could I just remove the bridge from the setup and just shim it out, or is that even necessary? Thoughts?
Dzimm Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 I would retain the way the factory built it. It's gotta be there for a reason. I'm not usually that way but on an engine component I wouldn't take the chance. That's just my thoughts on it.
AZJeff Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 The bridge stiffens the rocker towers and reduces flex in the rocker arm assembly. It functions very much like the girdle that is belonw the main bearing caps in the bottom of the engine on the 4.0

So a shim would be bad? edit: assuming the rocker arm ratio should be printed on the rocker somewhere? if it isnt how would i figure out what to get?
Jeep Driver Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 Call Harlan Sharp. No need to shim, no need for custom push rods. No need for a bridge..........can't use one anyway. No need for VC modification.
