krustyballer16
Gonna buy new u bolts and leaf eye bolts for my xj when I put a new lift on it in a few weeks. Does anybody know a place to get u bolts for cheap? For an 8.25 $40 seems about the average. And also, does anybody know what size the bolts are going thru the spring eyes and shackles? (Just havent got under and measured yet) Anndddd, gonna order bar pin flag nuts too. Anybody have any recommendations on where to get em? mjeff87
If you have a local spring shop to you, have them bend up up a set.
Eagle
IIRC, the spring eye bolts are 14mm.
krustyballer16
IIRC, the spring eye bolts are 14mm. That's what I was guessing, knew they were bigger than 1/2". Sent from my SM-G892A using Tapatalk
Eagle
They are 14mm, but I don't recall the length. In a pinch, I've been able to use a grade 8 9/16" bolt, liberally coat it with anti-sieze, and hammer it through the spring bushing, but it was a tight fit. The spring itself is 2-1/2 inches wide. Add an inch to allow for hanger or shackle thickness on both sides plus a nut, and you're at 3-1/2". In metric, that's 88.9 mm. So look for a 14mm x 90 mm (or so). 100 mm would be 3.9 inches long, so that should certainly be safe, and you can always cut off any excess if it's too long. HOrnbrod
I got mine made by Tom at Hell Creek. Told him I wanted the largest diameter u-bolts I could use on a stock MJ D44 using the late model MJ HD 1-piece spring plates and MT springs. They were perfect, arrived quickly, required no modifications, and were very reasonably priced. Had just enough bolt length for tall nuts with double nut lockers. That's what he does - leaf springs and all the associated parts.

HOrnbrod
The lock nuts are flush with the end of the threads...

Unless you're using double-height nuts, which is what the local spring shop provides.
HOrnbrod
Using tall nuts (double nuts, whatever you want to call them), then jammed with normal lock nuts.

Most of you are too young to remember either Charlie Chan, or the television series Kung Fu. Don should at least remember the latter. Anyway, spare yourself the trouble. I went out to help move a tree that fell across the road in front of my house, and one of the idiots who was "helping" rolled the butt end right onto my leg. At the moment, there's nothing left here to kick.
