trim question

Recommended Posts

Hey y’all, I bought a 88 comanche a few months back and am now looking to do a few small things to make it look better until I save up for my build. Anyways, my comanche has the polished windshield molding trim and also polished trim molding above the door. I’ve been looking online and can’t seem to find anything.. looking to replace the polished trim for a black one. Also trying to find window trim for the doors, need the outside trim and the trim that you can see when rolling down the mirrors on the window track. Thanks.

Welcome aboard!

You can pilfer black windshield trim from any suitable XJ you come across in the junkyard.

The drip rail trim above the windows is a different story.  Bright drip rail covers are sought after by many enthusiasts.  Somebody might be willing to trade you black for chrome, but you also run a good chance of deforming or destroying yours when you try to take them off since they are glued on.  Your best bet might be to tape off your roof/doors and plasti-dip yours while still place.

You can find the belt mouldings for the door windows here:

If you look closely at this pic you will see that the black has worn off the windshield trim, revealing that all of them are chromed and that the black plastic coating is over chrome.

You can scuff and prime and paint yours. Or, you can order a new windshield and request that a 97+ rubber trim be used, as I am.

As to the drip rail trim, don't' know about the one that was 'glued' on but mine has small clips- bet yours does too- place two thumbs underneath and push and roll upwards and the trim will come off.........just don't lose your clips.

Back to the original post -- I hope your planned build is mild, because that MJ is far to nice to hack up. It should be preserved.

I was going to keep it not to crazy but... ya know. This will be mostly a street queen. This is a post I made of my build up I’m wanting/saving up for..
